I read both the articles, and so far I fail to see any similarity to the Foley case, beyond the fact that they are both Congressmen who have resigned amidst allegations of sexual improprieties. Let me explain the differences for you:

Foley was found to have a history dating back at least a decade of sexually harrassing young male Congressional pages, many of whom were teenagers at the time of the offenses. What makes his behavior particularly appalling and hypocritical was that he was a leader in the House against child pornography and was Chair of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children, where he focused on the issue of sexual predators. He was forced to resign in disgrace by the Republican leadership.
He blamed much of his behavior on a drinking problem, and promptly checked into rehab.

Massa has so far admitted to what sounds like some not so unusual sounding male bonding type horseplay with a mature staffer at a 50th birthday party, where there was also some drinking involved it would seem. Beyond that all I see is a lot of 3rd and 4th hand rumor and innuendo.

If there is more to the story, I'm sure we'll know sooner or later. In the meantime, we have a tradition of innocent until proven otherwise to follow. Even if the worst alleged regarding Massa is true, it doesn't hold a candle to Foley or Ashburn. And whether his cancer is in remission or not, I think it's more than a little callous to dismiss that concern, in the absence of evidence or not.

Ashburn has an appalling record on gay equality issues, while secretly engaging in homosexual activities. You now know Foley's record too. It's the hypocrisy, baby. Got it?? If not, look it up.

It's like when two people are killed in a car accident and one is deader than the other and so likewise there are levels of sexual harassment. If a page is of majority age then the gloves come off. Groping as long as alcohol is involved and you, the groper, are not a Republican or conservative is ok. Or if you are not a hypocrite you can go around mauling anyone you want.

Am I on the right track? I am starting to feel so enlightened. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with me. Maybe you can help me pick the right candidate to vote for this November for New York State Governor. I don't want to vote for someone who patronizes hookers again.
