"A shocking level of irrational emotionalism and at times infantile rage was exposed at the heart of current Democratic ideology -- contradicting Democratic core principles of compassion, tolerance and independent thought"

Sounds like a lot of the people who were posting here.

Anyone care to comment on the above with irrational emotionalism and infantile rage while failing to exhibit any compassion, tolerance and independent thought?

Well, she is always an interesting writer even if i do not always agree with her.

my two bones to pick are her comparisons to Laird Hamilton.

-Laird is not a competitive surfer. He turned his back on competition, to pursue art. He surfs for love and for passion and new challenges, not to be judged by a bunch of so and so's who sit on the beach.

    - Laird also did not grow up fatherless...biologically fatherless, for a few years yes, but in fact it is quite a poignant story of how he was this crazy little 7 year old blond kid on the beach playing in the water, and a surfer and board shaper named Bill Hamilton, who was a famous surfer, saw the kid bodysurfing in the water, and they spent the rest of the day bodysurfing together, Bill was single at the time, but literally when meeting Laird felt an immediate connection, and after they were done bodysurfing, Laird dragged him up the beach because he wanted him to meet his single mom...the two met, and Bill fell in love instantly with his mom, and the rest is history. Laird took Bill's last name, and Laird has had a wonderful father the rest of his life.

    anyway, just a sidenote

    Re: Palin...projective wishful thinking.

That wasn't a "powerful clarity of consciousness in her eyes," Camille, it was the look of a doe caught in the headlights of an oncoming semi.

Irrational emotionalism and infantile rage is obviously mandated to be a member of the OKAC here.

First, "My point is:"? Seriously, if a writer has to announce their salient point, there isn't one.

Paglia is all over the place in this article (Cindy McCain is frail? Populism? Palin speaks with "rippling momentum"?), I assume to make it seem a fair and balanced critique, but it smacks of straw grasping in a bid to establish contemporary relevance.

After Sexual Personae and a brief period as a contrarian talking head, Paglia slipped headlong into banality and has yet to recover.
