Anyone remember the Reform Party? Now that was a viable 3rd party alternative.

Their Perot (pre-Buchanan) platform in '92 was legit, and they sought pretty much what the Democrats and the forward thinking Republicans are seeking - a moderate coalition.

All we need is a political agitator billionaire...

Faux news is a disease. One of may favorite recent quotes was from last week's morning chat fest of ditzy talking heads. The blonde meat puppet they have placed -- like a Playboy Centerfold -- remarked upon something one of her cohorts had said about how difficult it would be for Obama to get a finance reform bill passed and she quipped, "Yes, people don't realize that the President's job is almost as hard as job!"

Yup. Faux Network News. That's the first place I go for balanced information regarding 'Mericuhn politics.

Update: Our own Sharron Angle (tea bagger turned Republican candidate running against Harry Reid) was eviscerated last night during a one-on-one interview with Jon Ralston who has the most-watched political gab show, Face To Face, in Nevada (broadcast from Las Vegas).

Check: Face to Face with Jon Ralston - My News 3 - KVBC, Las Vegas, NV for partial interview.

Then there is Rachael Maddow's selection from that Face to Face interview: The Rachel Maddow Show - Sharron Angle gives first interview, possibly sinks campaign

For a load of various perspectives (most of them aghast), check: Sharron Angle | TPMDC

Yes, Sharron is our own Tea Bag darling who is no longer a teabagger now that she has taken on the cloak of a Republican. The Republicans aren't too happy.

So, Tea Bag away. Wallow in it. And then we'll see what happens in the next election cycle and 2012.

To aid my credibility, I'll note that I've met and spoken at length with Ron Paul, Lew Rockwell, and Bob Barr. They're nice people, but I've since moved away from Libertarianism and towards the only logically and morally sound position. Now on to my rant:

It's too little, too late.

When America was founded, we intended an ideal state which limits its actions to those which are moral on an individual level (as opposed to the doctrine of European nations, where murder and robbery were considered immoral, but wars and massacres were justified).

After two and a half centuries of unjust wars, genocide of Natives, slavery, suppression of States' rights, eminent domain, segregation, and most recently, the requirement that all citizens buy health insurance (because that surely affects interstate commerce!) the conclusion is simple:

Just government is impossible. Every nation, no matter how lofty and noble its aims, will devolve into a bloated, corrupt bureaucracy that suppresses the rights of individuals and siphons wealth to its ruling elite. America has failed. My advice: withhold your vote, thereby diminishing the legitimacy of our government, and doing your part to quicken the eventual demise of Leviathan.

I like your jibe, son.

Ross Perot was the only candidate that opposed the first gulf war, and the only candidate that opposed NAFTA. NAFTA ended up being one of the most disastrous American trade policies. Perot was right. But Clinton, Gore and Bush treated him like he was crazy when he said NAFTA would send all our jobs overseas.

Perot was right.

This evening the Nevada local news was a flutter over our own Sharron Angle having removed her old web site that listed her many beliefs for a better 'Mericuh (which I retyped here in an earlier post from one of her official and approved primary election handouts). It seems her "handlers" need to make the issues she ran on disappear and replace them with stuff less alarming. Remember, this is the woman who wants (wanted?) to repeal Medicare and Social Security, eliminate the Department of Education, and rattled vague threats about us real 'Mericuhns possibly needing to do something by exercising our gun rights protected in the Second Amendment to the Constitution to create "real change"?

Well, Harry Reid's campaign machine reposted her old web site giving Ms Angle complete attribution. Ms. Angle and friends do not want anyone to remember that old web site. So, what's the best way to distract the voting public's interest in reviewing her somewhat unconventional beliefs? According to Sharron Angle it is to send a "cease and desist" letter to Harry Reid, threatening to sue him for publishing copyrighted material. In this case, she believes the political points she ran on and with which she won the Republican primary are copyrighted.

Political thought copyrighted?

Harry Reid, et al, are just damn lucky they didn't repost her famous Chocolate Chip and Raisin Oatmeal Cookie Recipe. Boy, howdy. It's going to be a fun election season in Nevada.

There's no word as yet if Wikipedia has also been sent the same cease and desist threat.

If Sharron Angle wants to play that card, then all one would have to do is access the Way Back Machine and point out what her website looked like before she changed it. It archives everything on the internet going back as far as 1996. Problem solved.

A note to all of the ideological zealots out there... revising history doesn't work in the internet age.

Update: According to the evening news, that is exactly what the Reid Campaign has just done. I assume they have "mirrored" it under a similar domain name unless they have an in with the keepers of the Domain Name Gods.

It's such an amazing tool. I used it grab old images and content I generated for previous clients to make a new portfolio of my web design work. Over 52 billion sites archived and growing with every new domain registration, blog post, tweet or whatever. Politically, it's one of the most effective forms of cyber transparency and nobody who uses the internet is immune.

What's even funnier is how some Republican strategists are claiming that the Reid Campaign was phishing for Angle's previous web page info to suggest that what he was doing was illegal... as if some aides representing Reid sent an unsolicited e-mail to Sharron Angle under the guise of a "concerned citizen" (or a Nigerian diamond miner who needed to secretly ship $16M in cash) asking her for her previous political ideologies. What an absolute laugh riot! Angle got caught out there and there's no way for her to revise history on this case. Let's just hope that Harry Reid makes it a point to remind people constantly through November.
