I know its a hard get - a rational Trump supporter - but can somebody please explain to me why they still have faith in Trump regarding the following:
1. The whole Nordstrom thing. A President should not tweet about how a company is dumping his daughter's brand. This is childish and nepotistic. A real President shouldn't give a shit what Nordstrom does.
2. The constant citing of a made up rising crime rate statistic. This is well debunked yet Trump continues to state that we're living in an age of unheard of crime when in fact when compared to the 90s and earlier we are living in a fan-fucking-tastic era of low crime.
3. Trump's constant insistence that anyone who calls him on his buillshit is a "fake news" site. He's talking about sites like CNN, NBC, ABC. They might cover the Kardashians too much for my tastes but I refuse to believe they have some sinister agenda that starts with under reporting terror attacks and extends to "lying" about everything Trump does and supporting it with actual honest to god facts (something Trump and his staff cannot and will not do).
4. Trump's unhinged Tweets. Honestly have you read this stuff? Do you really thing the leader of the free world should be Tweeting like a jaded high school girl?
5. The infamous wall. You do understand how economics works don't you? How tariffs charged to countries importing goods are paid back by INCREASED cost of goods? So WE pay for the wall in the long run.
6. The even more infamous ban. How it targeted countries that haven't actually been responsible for acts of domestic terrorism. The countries that are responsible for them were kindly left out and suspiciously had a large volume of business deals in the works with Trump Inc.?
Fair warning - if you utter the word "snowflake" your opinion will immediately be invalidated. If you reiterate Trump provided "alternative facts" your opinion will immediately be invalidated. If you reference any actual fake news sites as your "factual" support your opinion will immediately be invalidated.
Alright....go!
I think it will be difficult to get anyone to come out in open dialogue when your first sentence openly insults their intelligence.
And that first sentence is indicative of exactly how he got elected in the first place.
There probably are very few Trump "supporters" and more a case of Trump "voters" who felt like it was time for a non politician to take a stab at it, for better or worse.
I voted for him, but I don't particularly care for him. I just dislike him less than I disliked Hillary.
Some of that was implicit bias based on her smugness, but mostly I though Trump might actually WORK, even if he isn't making all the right choices.
So far, he seems to come out of the gate busting his ass, and I can appreciate that.
Most Trump voters I know simply aanted to throw a grenade at Washington, and knew that 4 years of crazyness might be worth shaking it up a bit.
If the Dems had elected Webb in the primary, I would have voted for him in a heartbeat, but they didn't and that's that.
Back to your first sentence; Even though I am not a Trump fan, when people dear to me found out how I cast my vote, they called me a bigot, a racist, a xenophobe, a homophobe, an idiot, a redneck, and more. Some do not want to talk to me anymore.
I am none of those things and its heartbreaking that my "tolerant" loved ones have been so vile to me simply because I exercised the opinion of my free mind.
I probably am not exactly the kind of person you wanted to answer the question, but I gave it my best shot.
