Hi guys,

I would just like to know, from your own personal experience, is it possible to lose weight like I did when I was 22-23, and I'm now 31 ?

When I was 22-24 or so, I used to be able to lose weight like it was nothing. Just ate clean and lifted weights, did some cardio, and POOF, it was gone, in like 3-4 weeks (1 month).

When I was this age (22-24 or so), I would have bouts where I would put on about 5-7kg of fat. Wasn't lifting or anything. Then, as I said above, I went to gym for like a month and it just vanished.

I would like to lose about 20kg of weight / fat. I'm 31 years old now, and was wondering if I could lose it like I did when I was 22-24 or so, or will it be harder than that ? And if it's harder, will it be significantly different from when I was in my 20's ?

Thank you and kind regards,
Andrew

I have a significant amount of muscle at the moment. Just tested my deadlift and it came in at 150kg/330lbs. This after no training whatsoever for about 6 years. Just went in the gym and pulled 330lbs/150kg with NO training.

So having deadlifted 150kg with no training, I obviously have a decent amount of muscle.

I deadlifted 200kg/440lbs when i was 22-23.

Getting to the point: Will this muscle mass aid me in losing weight ?

Thanks,
Andy

It does get harder with age, but at 31 you're still young so even if it perhaps takes a little more effort than it did for you at 22 - 24, it is still very possible.
Other than exercise, the old saying of eating like a bird and crapping like an elephant still stands to reason ...

I bounced about three deployments from the time I was 28-32 give or take; the one thing that I noticed is dropping weight is a little slower, but you probably build muscle faster.

Swimming and weights worked best for me when the opportunities presented themself. I had to run every day or every other day anyway dependent upon our training cycles, so running usually just pissed me off.

Absolutely no way to know until you try it.
There are some basic guidelines... But, everybody is different.
At your age, generally, you should have enough testosterone, etc in your system to get results like you did previously.
However...
Your recovery ability does decline with age.
I would be more concerned about your lifestyle choices that lead you to do this yoyo type of dieting.
*That* will wear down your ability to recover more that just normal aging.
