I'd say the name Clinton irks ALL republicans more......he wasn't going to get nor does he need the Evangelical vote to win anyway.........and from what I've read, Condi is not exactly highly regarded in the Black Community.,I've read they see her as the water carrier for GW and Cheney and supressed her OWN views on the war and other foreign policy issues.

What about her reputation within the Black community......I'm a political junkie and read every blog, read all the pundits etc. and from what I;ve read, Condi is not well regarded in the Black community...any truth here?......and i think we should all be proud.....this is the first Political thread I've seen here that was intelligent and civil......Give ourselves a round of applause

I just think that there is a lot that will be thrown at Barrack in the general and the way he has handled what the Clintons have thrown at him does not inspire confidence in me. This is just my opnion and time may prove me wrong.

Obama is squeaky clean. America is sick of the current administration and the candidate which can convince them that they will bring real change will win the election. Obama has been DEFT in his handling of criticisms and that is why all the big name endorsements have been jumping on his boat. Look at the news right now regarding clinton. It's all "Bill this, Bill ruining hillary's campaign that" while on Obama's side you have Ted fucking Kennedy, Caroline Kennedy, Sebelius, Kerry all on his side... What more could you ask for really?

Actually for the most part I think Barack Obama has handled himself with dignity for the most part, he had a bad week last week, I think Bill got under his skin and he let it show. But i think he has his feet back under himself now and will probably now be a better candidate.....

Um, hello... he's BLACK.
Which Bill Clinton seems to want to remind everyone all the time. BUT he won in the MOST white state in the union, Iowa......came a close second in another mostly white state New Hampshire.,,and had a basically three way tie for the white vote in South carolina where he actually WON the MALE white vote......In my humble opinion, his message transcends race and I think this Country is finally able to get beyond race as well.(Can you tell which candidate I'm supporting?)

this sort of dated thinking does nothing to further your country.

Whose country?

Personally, I think that Obama would make a fine president - couldn't be worse than the incumbetent, anyway. However, I also think that many people here are underestimating the number of racists in the USA. Not that the USA necessarily has a lot more racists than anywhere else - just that there are a considerable number of them. And you will note that the last 2 elections were extremely close - a 5% swing would be enough to have changed the outcome in both cases.

Just sayin'.

And that kind of thinking stinks. It's one thing for a racist to forego voting for the black candidate. It's another for someone to damage his electability by assuming that racists won't vote for the black candidate. The outcome is the same, lost votes, and it will only stop when people stop doing it. The number of racists who will shrug off an Obama vote purely on race is probably a lot smaller than you think. And they probably were not voting democrat anyways.

Realism, you mean?

Sowwy.

Perhaps Obama - assuming he wins the nomination - will be elected. And perhaps he'll lose, and Americans will have 4 years of President McRomnabee instead.

It just seems odd that a party would choose a candidate that a statistically significant segment of the population would never consider voting for. Kind of puts the party at a disadvantage from the start.

It has been said that in the business world, women and minorities have to work harder/smarter/be more talented than white males to get to the same position. I've seen nothing to suggest that politics doesn't work the same way.

And i've seen nothing to suggest that Senator Obama won't work harder/smarter/be more talented than the other candidates, plus his ability to inspire a nation is something this nation has not seen(and most desparately needs) since the 1960's.

it's probably not statistically significant. if it was, he wouldn't be doing so well in the polls. And again, go on about your realism all you want but if
someone turns their vote because they think he's going to lose because of the racist vote then you've just doubled the effectiveness of the racist's choice.

If he conclusively demonstrates himself to be head and shoulders above all other candidates in either party, to the point where the Dems can say they won't need the 5-10% of voters who would never vote for a black man, then I can't argue with you.

Incidentally, that 60's thing didn't turn out so well - you may want to try a different analogy.

Actually if you're referring to the assassinations of the Kennedy brothers, you've just given voice to my greatest fear......I can't imagine how long it would take this country to recover from the wound that would be called by an assassination of Senator Obama..Hopefull security around our candidates has improved since the 60's, but there are still crazy people in this country. If that's not what you're referring to, i have no idea of what you speak.

Well, for starters, there's the Bay of Pigs and Cuban Missile Crisis, the escalation of involvement in Vietnam, the failure to support the civil rights movement...
