The chemical mix controlled the strength beyond a certain point.
Inducing a partial erection by slight or moderate arousal is possible, but, it is not able to be controlled and maintained in this state easily unless there is some sort of very low level mental stimulus and the absolute correct conditions are maintained. What it would take would be impractical.

In spite of this here is an attempt at giving you an answer.
Some men go through a period of desire for experimentation with the same sex. For some this will lead to accepting and understanding that they are in fact gay.
In other cases it is a desire for mental exploration and to know what the possibilities are on the other side of the pasture. You may have a time of gay sex and discover during that exploration that the plumbing begins to respond to females again as your need to learn is satisfied.
Many decades ago I went through a similar period in my own life. I was at one time engaged to be married in a purely straight relationship. The whole time this was going on I was playing both sides of the fence. I was, when I accepted who I was physically attracted to both males and females. As I gained sexual experience I found that while I could enjoy the physical attraction to females I could not make the mental connection to them in the same way I could to a male. To this day decades later, I still love the girl who could have ended up my bride. What I am smart enough to understand now is that the relationship would not have worked long term.
