I know. The altruistic politician.
A girl can dream, can't she?

Pity he wasn't smart enough to use that for reelection fodder.

A girl should dream...it cleanses the soul:)

That would be an ideal arrow in the re-election quiver. Who knows - it would probably stick nowadays

Not exactly a stinging rebuke. I take it your estrogen pills have finally leveled off for the night.

God bless!

I will never put anyone on 'ignore' because I think you are a complete pussy if you are incapable of brushing over or not validating a poster on the internet.

But this guy is the most annoying fucking shithead I have ever encountered on this website.

Under the framework of their healthcare plan, do you know if they are required to get treatment within their own province in order to get reimbursement; or can they travel to other areas of Canada where perhaps there are more specialists?

List of the 100 largest metropolitan areas in Canada - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are at least a dozen Canadian cities that are larger than Miami. Toronto is 10 times as large as Miami - it seems odd that they wouldn't have skilled specialists in this procedure.

Each province determines whether or not it will cover the costs (not reimbursement, there is no out-of-pocket cost for medically necessary services) for its residents for services not available within that province. My province, Alberta, makes a case by case determination, as there is little that is unavailable here; Newfoundland may be different. But a person going out of province for treatment would be prioritized on the basis of medical necessity, not financial ability.

Mr. Williams is a multi-millionaire, having made his fortune in broadcasting. If I had the financial resources to queue-jump (which is exactly what Mr. Williams is doing), and had the choice of recuperating in Miami or Toronto (or Montreal or Calgary or Vancouver, for that matter) in February, I'd go south too.

BTW, the city of Toronto at 2.5 million may be six (not ten) times the size of the city of Miami at 413,000. However, the Census Metropolitan Area of Toronto is about 5.1 million. The Miami metro area population is 5.5 million.

My bad. The way you run your mouth, I thought you could handle a taste of your own brand... Apparently, you don't like being treated with utter contempt and disrespect... Hmmm, maybe you should clue in and stop treating people this way if you don't like it?

How is the prioritization determined? Is there a panel or committee that evaluates necessity or severity?

Also - how much does a skilled surgeon earn in Canada vs. U.S.?

If I had the financial resources to queue-jump (which is exactly what Mr. Williams is doing), and had the choice of recuperating in Miami or Toronto (or Montreal or Calgary or Vancouver, for that matter) in February, I'd go south too.

Seems reasonable.

I stand corrected - six times as big as Miami.

This vs. this

and Rush Limbaugh traveled to Hawaii for his medical treatment where they have state run universal health care provided by unionized nurses.

And Scott Brown, newly elected republicant senator lives in Massachusetts, another universal health care state.

Not following your point.....Limbaugh and Brown are both Americans...getting treated in America.

The point in this thread was that a powerful Canadian politician went to the 43rd biggest city in the U.S. to get medical treatment vs. utilizing treatment in his backyard.

A few here have suggested that he picked his treatment center based on where he would get the best tan. The skill of the surgeon was of secondary concern.

Your original Wikipedia link was to "List of the 100 largest metropolitan areas in Canada"

The metro area of Miami goes all the way to Ft Lauderdale and Pompano beach and is roughly the same population as metro Toronto.

Let's stick with one definition of population Star. Since you started with metropolitan areas and like Wikipedia, here is a list by population of all metropolitan areas in the Americas.

List of metropolitan areas in the Americas by population - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Take a look at numbers 14 and 15. And note that Miami ranks number 7 in the USA.

You are trying to link this story about a politician going to Miami for an operation, to some kind of deficiency in Canadian healthcare. It's just another of your fishing expeditions. There is plenty wrong with Canada's healthcare system, but all this story does is demonstrate that we have no hospitals in the tropics and that our politicians are no better than yours. Go drip your line in another part of the lake. (did you find that cheap whore you were looking for btw? )

Yet just another American trying to find any excuse to point the finger at Canada rather than looking at the corruption going on in their own country... They haven't understood yet that they are practically despised everywhere around the world and still pointing fingers at their biggest neighbour and trade partner.

No need to lump them all together. They are not all lacking understanding about the world or how things work. Far from it.

This poster is often deliberately obtuse when attempting to make a point. It's just his style.

Not pointing the finger at Canada at all.

Just curious about a number of things in relation to universal healthcare - one of those things being the skill level/time lag in performing critical surgeries.

Yeah, but as a 'Mericuhn expat living who has had the advantage of doing a lot of world travel, I lost count long ago how many times people tell me "You're not like other people from the USA. You're nice. Why?"

So, the image and reputation us 'Mericuhns have acquired around the world has been earned for a reason.

For example, imagine Starpooper someplace like Bombay. I doubt he has the skills or would be willing to integrate himself into the local culture and broaden his world view.
