We have never been and are headed down in a couple of weeks and were wondering if anyone had any tips, pointers, ideas to share. We also have to book a room for two of the nights and were wondering about some of the more 'adult' resorts. If you have thoughts or ideas please share. Thanks

The adult resorts can be gross. The young in shape people I know tend to get repulsed. They are full of swingers for sure, if that's how you roll. Cancun is more North Americans, the Europeans tend to go farther south to Riviera Maya. The all inclusive clubs that are part of the resorts are normally pretty good, air conditioning is a must. Downtown Playa Del Carmen is a blast, loud clubs etc. Goes all night. The Blue Parrot is a favorite on the beach. However, be warned. It's really expensive. This is why we always go all inclusive at the resort. You see plenty of naked flesh on the beaches farther south....some you really don't want to see. Also, Cancun resorts are on the beach, Playa Del Carmen they are not. The resorts are all "you get what you pay for" for sure. The Riu's offer several grades of resorts right next to each other. We enjoy the Palace level.

Hope that helps.

All inclusive is the way to go wherever you plan of staying. I cannot recommendations an adult resorts but try to take as many Mayan tours as you can. Try to lose yourself in the culture. They is also have a adventure park in the middle of the jungle called Xplor. They have ATV's, zip-lines and they also have a underground river.

Thanks for the responses and ideas so far. We are booked all inclusive at the new Hard Rock resort for most of the week who is offering excursions to the ruins and I believe the adventure park as well. Really want to find a different place for the first couple of nights and are also wondering the best ways to get from points a to b and beyond also. May message y'all with a few questions on your leads in the meantime. Thanks again!

Personally, I'd stay at the hotels along the beaches in Tulum and venture out to the cenotes, biological reserves, and archaeological sites from there (Tulum and Chichen Itza are beautiful, but don't forget to check out Coba as well). Other people may feel otherwise, but I think that unless you're into shopping or sitting by the pool for a week or two, Cancun is boring after a couple of days and Playa del Carmen, while much better, is not nearly as beautiful as Tulum.

I concur. On all points.

Went to Cancun in November and stayed at RIU Caribe so only about 2-3 miles outside Cancun centre. I really enjoyed it there. Buses easy to get around on particularly if staying on the Cancun Boulevard, they run 24hrs a day up to every 5 minutes for 9.50 pesos / $0.80 / 50p.
I personally think Coco Bongos nightclub is a must. There's one in both Cancun and Riviera Maya. We did the Goldmember pass which gave us included drinks all night long, seats with a view of the show which included trapeze artists flying over our heads and then the clubbing element to it as well!
We also did Chicen-itza for the day with Xperinces Xcaret. Again, well worth the money paid.
ENJOY

Thanks for the tips and ideas and I welcome more. We are flying in on a Saturday and gonna stick around Cancun until Monday then head to the new Hard Rock in the Riviera Maya as a base to work from. Still have not booked Cancun nights yet.
