Could be possible. Mabee the radio only operates properly with 10V+ and your battery was getting weak with only 8 or so volts. It may have had enough current to roll the starter, but possibly not enough to keep the radio circuits happy.

Batteries generally last 5-8 years under normal use, but there are bum batteries out there too.

Great advice Rikter8. I was going down the same road as you. Had an older Exploder that did something similar. Let it sit over night and had enough juice to spin it over in the AM but wiped the radio. Only answer I had was that when the started engaged it dropped the juice below 10V long enough to wipe it.

Oh, and not to be a smart arse, but no-one sane is keeping a '99 Expo bone stock for collection purposes....yet Just jerkn your chain a bit, so don't go flaming

Yup. 2002's were the worst of the lot. If it wasn't broken coil springs, it was wheel bearings....and belt tensioner idler pulleys....or transmissions.
That was one year that "Better Ideas" didn't work out so good for the owners, but better for the dealerships.
