I am going to be very curious to see how his teammates respond, how opposing players respond and how the fans respond.... and I will pay particular attention to see how long he's going to remain in the NFL. Will he be forced out in one way or another? It should make no difference but as we know it certainly can.

No, no, now is not the time for the real world or cynical worries; that's for tomorrow. This is a time to bath ourself in the rainbow light and think about that young kid out there playing ball, wondering to themselves whether they are even allowed a career. A time to recognize his courage in overcoming his struggle and worries, and think about how the last barrier in a Conservative mainstay institution has been broken. A Very Happy Pride.

Yay. This is a big day for gay visibility/representation. I think he will get quite a few endorsements. Corporations have probably been dying to have an out NFL player. Being an openly gay celebrity or public figure in the U.S. has gone from being a liability to an asset. Look how much advertising to the gay community corporations do for Pride month now.

Also, good on him for donating $100,000 to The Trevor Project. Some gays don’t even donate to LGBTQ+ organizations after spending years voting for legislation against their own community *cough* Aaron Schock *cough*

Throwing Colton Underwood down the drain in the process? Anyways by all indication Carl seems like a serious athlete who prefers a private life, so hopefully he’ll stay away from all this fame whore whirlpool.
Hopefully you’re right. I can definitely see Gus sliding into Carl’s DMs tho

Kind of sucks that his coming out is being discussed more on Colton's thread than here. I loved Carl's video and the contrast between these two guys is revealing. Carl didn't sound like someone trying to sell us something. Just sounds like a well adjusted guy who is happy to be living his life. No TV show to promote, no book to plug. Just spreading the good word about The Trevor Project and putting his money where his mouth is. We should be happy for him and happy to welcome him to the community.

Haha at the end of the day people are here for the thirst pics...which Colton (for all this problems) of course provides plenty. But I'm sure a lot of new NHL/Carl fans will collect them as they come from now on LOL

Btw, lad is an absolute unit

Are you kidding? He's going to be a superstar. This gives the Raiders tons of positive publicity. I know -- it's hard for me to process too, since things have changed so fast -- but having the first out active player is a coup. Not downplaying fan homophobia -- it exists -- but at the same time, no one in a position of power gives a shit what that (diminishing) segment of the fan base thinks.

I thought Michael Sam would be a superstar too, but that didn’t pan out. I feel like Carl Nassib should be a superstar, and, as you say, hopefully we’ve moved on as a society for that to happen.
