No, the tazing made sense. He was actively resisting, fighting them. He had one handcuff on him, which meant he had a serious weapon - just a swing of the handcuffed arm could have seriously injured anyone nearby. I read somewhere else, too, that they had the taser set on low power, and his minimal reaction seems to bear that out. It was totally appropriate.

The tragedy here is that we have drug laws that scare a young man like that so much that he does something stupid to try to try to ditch the marijuana - here, swallowing it. If he'd known he was just going to get a ticket, he'd not have felt the need to fight like that, and he'd not have felt the need to do something as dangerous as swallowing a plastic baggie.

Andrew Grande (which sounds like a porn name, too . . . Grande?) died not because of the cops, and not so much because of his own stupidity. Andrew Grande died because our idiotic marijuana laws made it rational for him to do everything he could to escape prosecution for possession.

End prohibition now!

No, just because he was out numbered does not mean that he was not still a serious hazard to the cops and anyone else on the scene. One man bent of making disorder is not necessarily overmatched by three men trying to keep order. Keeping order is way more difficult than creating disorder.

Stupid statement.
Marijuana is against the law. He knew this. Instead of owning up to it and admitting he had it on his person, he tried to run away from that responsibility.
He was WRONG to have an illegal drug on his person. He was WRONG to try to escape his punishment for having broken that law.
If he had raised his arms in the air and allowed them to find the drug, he would be alive today.

Instead, he paid a terrible price for HIS stupidity.

Until marijuana (if ever) is legalized, we must OBEY THE LAW.

There are those that feel there is nothing wrong with child molestation (I am NOT one of them)... If the police are banging down the molester's door because they know he's in a room with a child, and the molester tries to escape through a window, but falls three flights and dies, would you say, "If there wasn't a law against child molestation, that man would not have had to run!"

Don't be stupid. Laws are to be obeyed.

Do you think maybe he was struggling because he was already chocking, its not clear on the video exactly when he put something in his mouth. Could he have already been dead to long before parametics got the bag out of his throat. They didn't pronounce him dead until they got to the hospital by what I read. Just don't make sense no one was able to save him all you see on tv these days with peole using pens to do a tracheotomy on someone. Someone is hurting very much from this I just know it. He was a hot dude. Don't matter what he was or what he had in his possession. Pot is only illegal becuase laws are stupid. You can get high off all kinds of stuff that isn't illegal to possess.
