Woman on top is a good way to avoid it since she's more in control of depth.
If you're on top, be careful of positions that really open her up combined with hard thrusting. One thing that might still be ok is to thrust in all the way slowly and then rock your hips instead of going in and out...there's a spot there that she may find quite pleasurable.

I've had the same problem with my wife, who is a petite 5'4". She says it feels like I'm poking her ovaries. An 8" or longer cock can be a problem if the woman has, and not even knowing it, a shortish vaginal canal, dipped uterus.
