WATER

#1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
(Likely applies to half the world population.)

#2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak
that it is mistaken for hunger.

#3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as 3%.

#4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs
for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of
Washington study.

#5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

#6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of
water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain
for up to 80% of sufferers.

#7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term
memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on
the computer screen or on a ! printed page.

#8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of
colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast
cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop
bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water
you should drink every day?

COKE

#1. In many states the highway patrol carries
two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from
the highway after a car accident.

#2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke
and it will be gone in two days.

#3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the
toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour,
then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes
stains from vitreous china.

#4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers:
Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds
Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

#5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour
a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble
away the corrosion.

#6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola
to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

#7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into
the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake.
Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix
with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

#8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke
into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run
through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen
grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your
windshield.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

#1. the active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid.
It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric
acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major
contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.

#2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup! (the concentrate) the
commercial trucks must use a hazardous Material place
cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

#3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean
engines of the trucks for about 20 years!

Now the question is, would you like a glass of water?

or Coke?

I just learned via a hospital stay what "soft drinks" (yeah right) can do to your stomach. It ain't pretty and it's damn painful.

I am one of those people who used to mistake thirst for hunger. Now, before every meal, and every snack, I drink a glass of water. If I get a headache, I drink a glass of water before taking anything. If I feel tired, I try water, and then a slice of bread, and then give myself the go ahead to move on to caffeine. (Usually in the form of black coffee.) Eating lots of raw veggies is another great way to remain hydrated and keep your body functioning well.

Very interesting facts about water Gillette.
But I think that most of those coke facts were
de-bunked on the myth busters tv show.

Although I throughly enjoy watching people drop
Mints into bottles of coke.

But did you know that drinking too much water can also cause you to become dehydrated? Long story short I ended up in a hospital for a week because I was dehydrated from drinking too much water.

According to Snopes, my favorite site for checking the facts on this kind of thing:

Many of the entries above are just simple household tips involving Coca-Cola, as provided by Joey Green in his 1995 book Polish Your Furniture with Panty Hose and on his web site. That you can cook and clean with Coke is relatively meaningless from a safety standpoint — you can use a wide array of common household substances (including water) for the same purposes; that fact alone doesn't necessarily make them dangerous to ingest. Nearly all carbonated soft drinks contain carbonic acid, which is moderately useful for tasks such as removing stains and dissolving rust deposits (although plain soda water is much better for some of these purposes than Coca-Cola or other soft drinks, as it doesn't leave a sticky sugar residue behind). Carbonic acid is relatively weak, however, and people have been drinking carbonated water for many years with no detrimental effects.

The rest of the claims offered here are specious. Coca-Cola does contain small amounts of citric acid and phosphoric acid; however, all the insinuations about the dangers these acids might pose to people who drink Coca-Cola ignore a simple concept familiar to any first-year chemistry student: concentration. Coca-Cola contains less citric acid than orange juice does, and the concentration of phosphoric acid in Coke is far too small (a mere 11 to 13 grams per gallon of syrup, or about 0.20 to 0.30 per cent of the total formula) to dissolve a steak, a tooth, or a nail overnight. (Much of the item will dissolve eventually, but after a day or two you'll still have most of the tooth, a whole nail, and one very soggy t-bone.)

Besides, the gastric acid in your stomach is much stronger than any of the acids in Coca-Cola, so the Coca-Cola is harmless.

The next time you're stopped by a highway patrolman, try asking him if he's ever scrubbed blood stains off a highway with Coca-Cola (or anything else). If you're lucky, by the time he stops laughing he'll have forgotten about the citation he was going to give you.

The salt-water balance is crucial. Too much salt and water is taken from the blood and cells to balance the system including the gut. Too much water and salt is taken from the blood and cells to balance the system including the gut.

Salt is not a poison! Doctors have scared the public to the point that most people I meet are dehydrated, not from lack of water but by having reduced their salt intake to the point that water is not being absorbed by the blood and cells but more salt is removed from the blood and cells to maintain the salt-water balance, only in this case the cells bloat with excess water.

This is a simplified version of what happens.

Also:
If you feel bloated or have water weight and you are low in salt, ingesting salt will have a diuretic affect.
Sun-stroke is often precipitated by poor salt-water balance, salt can also help you stay hydrated and has an impact on sweating to help stay cool.
Cotton mouth is a sure sign of a need for salt.
If you are drinking lots of fluids, still feel thirsty and feel like you have a hard and bloated stomach, you need salt.

Be sure to take enough fluids with salt to help regain the proper salt-water balance.

You used to be able to buy salt tablets readily, but some pharmacies treat them as if you need a prescription and may even hide them. If you ask for salt tablets some pharmacists don't know what you are talking about, ask for Thermotabs(r). Take 2-3 with 8-12oz of fluid.

If you take to much salt at one time you will feel nauseated and may need to throw up, if you jump on that feeling right away you can take in some more fluid, so keep some handy.

I often drink lots of water if I have a headache, goes away quickly without the need for pills. I get those kind of headaches that make your eyebrows dance and people in the near vicinity run the risk of being hammered into bloody pulps!

and remember folks, 89% of statistics are made up

I'm glad you debunked that for me, it was an email sent to me by my mother, I'd hate to have to tell her that she's right. I won't tell her that it did initially put a scare into me.

I hate the taste of water, when I do buy it I purchase distilled water as I can taste the minerals in the spring variety and can't stand it.

Anyone know the pros/cons of distilled water for drinking purposes?

Its not true dehydration.....its more of an electrolyte shift and deficiency.....you occasionally hear about it with marathon runners or atheletes in the summer that drink too much water

I believe what is recommended, i havent seen new guidelines, is most people can just drink water when exercising. Elite athletes need to replace the salts as well.

I dont feel like going through all the posts but someone was talking about how doctors have scared people into thinking salt is a poison. Thats bc more people consume more than 10x the recommended salt intake......most people get adequate salt from diet

Thats true baseball, its not a true dehydration but has similar effect. I'm on a "diet" of 2 liters of water and 1 of gatorade or similar. Worked well for me so far. If I am more active than normal I add gatorade

Distilled water, as in pure 100 % distilled water, is undrinkable .
Distilled water will draw minierals out of anything it comes into contact with.
Purified water (filtered ) would be much healthier.
In industrial use, distilled water is typicaly ran in glass or stainless steel
tubing; anything else will corrode after awhile.
