my avatar is supposed to be a muscular timothee chalamet and it's a photomontage vectorized / cartoonized... it's hard as fuck to make things like this... I admire who are able to do it well

Is this considered "art" now?

I can't buy into the idea as you can tell the face is taken from one image and the body from another.

Artist used references from a model either from life or source material like photo as a guide. It's art to me. I went to Creative and Performing Arts High in NYC called LaGuardia and we used references from magazines as well as life models to use as subjects of our art work. So yeah, it's art.

Is it "referencing" the art, when it's literally the same image just altered? Similar to tracing an image?
It's altered and my guess it's that he often use male celebrities for his art and logically they would not pose nude if he ask them in real life. So he has to use references from other sources.

It takes a lot of talent and what he and other artist, cause it's very hard to free hand from your own mind. If you do it, the symmetry of the body will be off. References help a big time cause you at least accurate depiction. I tried free hand when I attended art school, and the arms of the human subject ended up too long or the length of the lips to the jaw is either too long or too short.
