Are you guys current on the hoopla surrounding the reaction of evangelical Christians and "fundies" to the proudly out gay actor Chad Allen playing the role of a Christian missionary in the latest movie tailored to the "Christian Right"?

This is just perfect. They are so caught up in the twist in their undies the fundies are tripping over their "tongues"!!

Good for Chad. Read on if so inclined:

Growing up, "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" was one of the few mom-approved shows that I actually enjoyed watching. Considering that the show was set in mid-19th century Colorado Springs, it dealt with a lot of modern issues in a non-judgemental way. There was even an episode about Walt Whitman that portrayed homosexuality in a positive light.

I had no idea what the actor's name was, that he was gay, or that he was still performing. I'm glad to see that the fundies have their undies in a knot over this one. It's one more story to exposes their hippocrasy. By performing in this movie, Chad Allen is preaching the Christian message to the masses. The fundies would rather get a homo fired from a movie set than have another (possibly even mainstream, wide-distribution) movie with a positive Christian message available to the public.

He came to some fame as a televison actor in the series "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman" starring Jane Seymour. His character name was Matthew Cooper and he played Jane's son. Allen came out big time in "The Advocate".

Kuddos to him and those like him like Rupert Everett who tell the truth.

In his "Dr. Quinn" days:

OK, now I recognize him.

Yes Chuck. I'd forgotten about the Walt Whitman episode. Thanks for recalling it to me.

If you read that thread through at that "sharperiron" blog the undercurrent of officious arrogance and condescending self-righteousness is palpable. The fundies are so conflicted about the movie (which they're dying to see yet not quite able to recommend) and the fact that a gay actor (Chad Allen) was cast to play the lead has them doing a "Linda Blair".

The bastards even warn "what message does a gay actor playing the lead in a Christian movie sent to teenagers?? They'll go to Allen's website and think that his LIFESTYLE is normal". HUH??????

Talk about a "tempest in a teapot". These people look to find something they can whine about.

But one thing is clear: In the Christian view of things we're nothing more than fodder for hate rhetoric and ostracism. Lovely when the last condonable prejudice is somehow not viewed as 'hateful'.

If you read through the comments (which I definitely cannot recommend), some of them openly and proudly call on christians to hate the movie and to hate gays.

Yes Matthew. I read through every last one of them and perused that site in detail yesterday. I think it's vital we all know the take those people have on us. I've emailed that link to several friends so no one can cry "ignorance" about just how overtly we're hated.

i would have to say that 85% of the public didnt even know who this man was...till the "chruch group" made a big nosie about him playing in this movie.. do we have to get a Jew for a movie to play Jesus?
a priest to play the Pope? thank goodness Amos and Andy didn't have the blacks yelling back years ago... give me a break...this is an actor.. and the role he played was not a gay one!! raise your kids and family in your beliefs and let the others alone... you have so much f-ing time to worry about others ????
get a life to those that are so dumb... can any of you tell me how many
actors were gay or lesbos back in the 50-60-70's when Hollywood hid that from us? and we loved them... Rock Hudson for one..
he didn't come out public and tell everyone to be GAY...
sounds like to me those that worry about this crap...have some gay experience in their lives and worried that someone will find out...
get real... learn to live with everyone...they aren't going after you...
just my thoughts... ex hetrosexual raped by ... Preacher...that was married..

I, for one, really enjoyed trying to wrap my mind around those comments. Just some quick bits of comments from the other forum and my thoughts.

"They should be ashamed for this inclusiveness and tolerance - thinking that 'love' for each other and establishing a friendship with those who need the Lord makes it all right." - Well, I have the Lord. Will you be my friend? We can be exclusive and intolerant together.

"How can a Christian not think that Charlie’s Angels is pornographic?" - #1 Wrong movie dumbass... #2 It was a little racey, but far from pornographic. Now this is pornographic! I don't remember anything like that in Charlie's Angels. Maybe he's talking about the TV show?

"Granted, we must not overreact. And it would probably be an overreaction to firebomb these men’s houses." - Be careful. Not firebombing his house might be considered "tolerance." It truly is a slippery slope, isn't it?

Fundamentalist so-called Christians believe that the 1961 movie "King of Kings" is one of the greatest movies ever made. I've never heard anyone, fundies included, bitch about Jesus being played by a gay actor in that movie. Jeffrey Hunter's sexuality wasn't exactly a big secret. What message does a gay actor playing the lead in a Christian movie send to teenagers? Maybe that Christianity should be about love, acceptance and tolerance. If God loves all His children equally, why shouldn't His followers do the same? Isn't the call of Christians to be Christ-like?

chad is a cutie or was, not to much in the dick area though. I swear I saw a video where the bottom looked exactly like it was chad. It was with aiden shaw, I think it was called forced entry.
Oh yeah, Gay men play straight men and straight men play gay men, men play women and women play men. Hell, if a pediphile can play in real life the role of a priest then a gay man can play the role of anyone.
