My most heartfelt sadness and sympathy goes to Martin and Emilio for the national embarrassment created by Charlie. Having worked in the Industry, I also offer my sympathy to the other cast members of the show. Good or bad, Charlie obviously has no regard for the fact that he not only places himself out of work, but, that he places a number of other actors and crew people in the unemployment line as well. The reason that the role works for Sheen is that in the show he portrays a self-centered egomaniac chasing skirts, caring about only himself, living a life of luxury while boozing it up and doing comparatively little to actually earn his living. In this case they did not hire an actor, they hired a man who in fact was the part he was playing by example of his personal life. Having worked in that industry, the one rule is you never bad mouth the hand that feeds you. Let's look at some famous mouths. Willie Aames got "religion" and subsequently badmouthed the hand that fed him. After that the only role he could get was "Bibleman" and he finally ended up being ruined and in bankruptcy. A similar fate was waiting for Kirk Cameron as he opened his mouth making remarks that were "unkind" and more after his "religious discovery". He was so vocal he not only destroyed his own career but that of his wife actress Chelsea Noble. Then there was Dustin Diamond, who excelled at playing a transvestite in one comedy movie with a mouth the size of the State of Texas. More Foreclosures and Bankruptcies based on "foot in mouth disease".
His best hope is to take up residence at Betty Ford for at least a year, keep his nose clean, shut his mouth, and then try to convince not only the studio brass but the public that he is worth watching.
With regards to other show offers, there are other problems there. You have production and concept people chasing Sheen while you have financial backers running the other way because they do not want to lose their investment if their "star" lays another egg. If the financial backers take a powder, he is still history.
In quotes of a famous television commercial: "Sorry Charlie, only the finest tuna get to be Starkist".
