Chicken Fried!

Ok, for those that don't read the blogs, i will recap briefly here of a new experience i had.

Until yesterday i had never heard of "chicken fried steak" or "chicken fried chicken", nor did i know what in the hell it was or even tasted it. so my new room mate made chicken fried chicken and then chicken fried chicken gravy. although not heart healthy, it tasted great.

how many of you know what 'chicken fried' is or how its made? until last night i have lived 38 years without knowing. details are in blog.

Love Southern cooking.....ummm maybe I'll make chicken fried steak and gravy with mashed potatoes tonight! Have not had that in ages. I have half of a homemade cherry pie in the fridge, maybe I'll make some ice cream while I'm at it. Thanks! I know what I'm having for dinner tonight!

Goodwood, thank you for the dinner inspiration. Chicken fried steak and gravy, cheddar mashed potatoes, cornbread battered okra, and pickled beets. Cherry pie and ice cream coming up. I'm in heaven until I get to the gym at 6:30 tomorrow morning!

I grew up in NY too but I damn well know what fried chicken is. Hard to believe you never had or heard of fried chicken before moving to TX.

anyway........ there is fried chicken, period - not chicken fried chicken, just fried chicken: chicken parts dipped in egg batter then rolled in flour and spices then deep fried in sizzling hot, golden oil until crispy on the outside, moist and delicious on the inside. mmmm mmmmmm.

chicken fried steak is steak - longhorn, good ole' side-o-beef, prepared in the same way as fried chicken.

anyone who tells you different is pullin' ya leg boy

Is it just fried chicken like "churches, KFC and popeyes" or is it something else? I know about Fried Chicken but what the hell is "Chicken fried Chicken"? lol and who the hell thought of the name "Chicken"? sounds so odd

I normally love my PA dutch type meals but when I visited OK I got my fill of chicken fried steak and my sis makes it with cubed steak but I think there is better thing to make it with.Another thing I love was those big servings of catfish and fried potatoes, and Sausage and Bisquits with gravy it killer too.

We fry everything in the south. From meats, beef, pork, chicken, fish, bologna (baloney)... vegetables, all vegetables okra, eggplant, tomatoes-green or red, squash you name it, its fried. Oh yeah, we also fry Snickers bars, Twinkies and ice cream. Fuck it and fry it!
