It seems Popeye's, the Cajun style fried chicken chain has a new filet style chicken sandwich. This has generated a debate on Twitter as to which is better - Chick-fil-a or Popeye's. This tweet stuck out -

"Okay, let me break it down for the people who have not had a chicken sandwich from either Popeye's or Chick-fil-a.

The Chick-fil-a sandwich tastes like it was cooked by white woman named Sarah who grew up around black people. The flavor is definitely there, but Sarah cares about your cholesterol so she is careful about the breading and the grease content.

Popeye's tastes like it was cooked by an older black woman named Lucille that serves on the usher board and has 12 grandkids that call her "Madea." Madea don't give a shit about your cholesterol because 'God's in control.' I hope this helps."

Admittedly, I'm a Popeye's chicken fan. Their chicken sandwiches are indeed damn good. Used to love Bojangle's but then they shut down where I live and you can't find them here.

Having had Chick Fil-A's and Popeye's... the latter wins hands down.

Clarence Hill's tweet is spot on.

CFA is good chicken. Not amazing, but good. Their carrot and raisin salad set them apart but they stopped serving it years ago. Their beliefs and politics have zero impact on my decision to eat or not.

Popeye's is also good chicken. Haven't tried their sammich yet.

CFA wins the customer service award hands down though. We need them to run the DMV.

Popeye's is my go to when I'm in the mood for some tasty fastfood fried chicken. And I can't ever go to Popeye's without getting their Onion Rings. Best I've had. I'll have to try one of their Chicken sandwiches next time I go.

NO Chik-fil-a for me. Won't knowingly support bigots. Don't care to spend my "gay dollars" where it's been made quite clear I AM not welcome. Period.

Tried Chik fil a once to see if the hype (just for their food) was justified. I don't think it is. I would rather not give them my money anyway.

Popeye's doesn't get my money either. The one nearest to us is horribly, blatantly racist and the company as a whole doesn't seem to care. They no longer get a single cent of my money, my partner's money, or even my partner's mother's money.

I would rather eat Raising Cane's chicken, or a particular local place's chicken.

After a prolonged absence, a Church's chicken is opening up near me. Haven't tried them yet though.

I'm with the others on there, I'd rather not give right-wing hatemongers my money (Chick Fil-A).

Church's is great - I have not had I lately, but when they opened a few stores in the DC area in the early 80's it was amazing. Love to see one where I am now.

Okay, all this talk has made think about some fried chicken we used to get back in the 1970s and 80s, and wondering if anyone else remembers: Holly Farms Fried Chicken.

OMG was that ever the best chicken. Hubby and I would drive across town to visit some good friends. That was some good munchies food! :innocent:

And the potato wedges--OMG!!! Hubby would salivate over their fried chicken livers. I seem to remember their cole slaw was also quite tasty.

We also liked Church's Fried Chicken. And we remember getting good Fried Chicken from the old Roy Rogers fastfood restaurants too!

But that was back when I could eat pretty much anything I wanted and not gain weight. I miss those days...:yum

I remember the Holly Farms, although I have not seen it in years. Roy Rogers is still making fried chicken but it is outrageous in price these days. Really high. I like fried chicken from Martin's supermarket, which is owned by Giant Foods. It is done by a deep fryer called a 'broaster' which really turns out moist tender chicken with a nice skin on it. Other Giant owned markets likely have it as well.

Giant's fried chicken is pretty good, but I don't eat much fried chicken so I can't say how good it is.

I like Chic-fil-a. Never had food from Popeye's.

heh. I knew a guy who said, "I hate Chic-fil-a, and I threw a brick through a Chic-fil-a window once during a protest. But I eat there all the time because it's so good." And he's gay.
