US-China trade dispute
US manufacturers hit harder than China’s in trade war
PMI data support findings of Harvard study into impact of tariffs
“Trade wars are good, and easy to win.” So wrote Donald Trump in a tweet from March 2018, shortly before launching the first round of tariffs on goods from China. But, for all Mr Trump’s bravado, data paint an increasingly bleak picture of the trade war’s impact on the US economy.

The US manufacturing purchasing managers’ index has been below the 50-point mark separating contraction from expansion since August, while the official counterpart from China’s statistics bureau shows a smaller fall in manufacturing activity and far greater resilience over the long term.

“If the sentiment of manufacturers is any guide, the US is losing out more from the escalation of the trade war,” said Michael Metcalfe, global head of macro strategy at State Street Global Markets. “US manufacturing sentiment has collapsed in the past nine months, spectacularly so in the last quarter. Meanwhile, their Chinese counterparts, at least by the official measure, are no less cautious than they were at the beginning of the year.”

Once in awhile you should try being right. The S and P 500 is up 15.7% YTD. Unemployment is at record lows. Obama wished he could have been “ driving the economy off a cliff” in such a way. Black Friday set online sales records.
Just wait ... going over a cliff. Just haven't made contact with the jagged rocks at the bottom yet.

Of course when it happens you'll find some ridiculous way to blame Obama.

Going over a cliff?

We are looking at at least a year out. That is a cliff? More like a bunny hill ski “ slope.” How long have libs been predicting ( actually begging for) a recession? I follow the news, Dems have been hoping for a recession now for 2 years. C Rampnell had been wrong for 2 years as has been Paul Krugman and Dean Ellis.

That 'least a year out' coincides with the election. Tick-tock, tick-tock.

You don’t strike me a religious person, but I can see you praying hourly to whatever divinity, hoping the US economy completely falls apart so Trump is squashed.

Think about how that makes you look.

As usual you project you own bias on anything you disagree with. Think how that makes you look. The US is facing a massive 'debt bomb.' It is more than the government borrowing like mad during an economic upswing, which is madness in and of itself, the consumers are strung out of all kinds of debt - student loans, housing, cars, vacations, telephones (average iPhone is replaced every two years) and of course credit cards. There comes a point when the pay back contracts the economy. Corporations are drowning in debt as well. This hurts R & D - which Trump downgraded in his silly tax law and hurts long term growth. Everything is geared towards here and now and pay backs are going to be hell. Farm bankruptcies are up 25% in one year. #MAGA. The farms not bankrupt yet are looking at cuts to planting for next year because the future is so uncertain for exports. Thanks to Trump farmers lost Mexico, Japan and China as customers and now other counties as well are likely.

I'm not praying for an economic collapse, but there are problems up ahead and Fat man in the WH is woefully unfit to deal with them.

Also, I am actually a very religious person, but that really is neither here nor there.

So you admit that Donald Trump will ruin our economy and that it will bottom out in 2021.

No American citizen want our own economy to tank just because they don't approve of one president. By your own logic you would have "prayed" for economic destruction under Obama.

I don't wish for an economic downturn but I do realize that they are always inevitable. You Dear Leader Trump has set the stage for a very ugly situation. Fortunately there's always some democrat that shows up and fixes things...
