I'm still so new to this game that I still need to look into upping HDL. In an emergency move, I've cut out all animal products--meat and dairy.
it's just going to make it worse try the opposite i eat a mostly meat focus diet 95% animal based my LDL remained the same while HDL is up by a lot...

Testosterone is also higher as well i'm at over 600 now, compared to my baseline of 190-low 200s 2.5 years ago..

apparently eating highly estrogenic plants isn't healthy...

Cholesterol...yeah, exciting topic. Gets way more interesting when you realize you're on the road to a stroke. Anyone here brought down their cholesterol substantially without meds? What did you do?
Great encouragement, chaps. Thanks.

Yesterday, I took my first lipid panel since my earlier sky-high LDL reading of 205. Yesterday was 161.

HDL increased from 53 to 58.

Total cholesterol decreased from 286 to 240.

Total span: 107 days.

Can't say I'm thrilled, but it's something. I'll keep eating well, exercising, and taking that red yeast rice.

You are heading in the right direction, Don. That's great!

Good job, DL.

I have an annual physical in 2 weeks, with a subsequent lipid panel. I'll post the results then. FYI, my PCP a year ago wanted to prescribe a statin and I refused, so we'll see if my decision to not take a med and use diet to control 'high LDL' is correct. And it's also worth remembering that since going keto I no longer take meds for gout or high triglycerides since they're both in normal range.

Hope you get good results. That's fantastic news about getting off some of the medication.

Please do. I'll be curious to see what 1 year brings.

why would you want to lower it the longest living people have the highest cholesterol

just cut down on the carbs if anything you want to lower triglycerides and not LDL

Other wise do manplain how you will make hormones such as testosterone which cholesterol is needed... are you going to get it from a syringe ?

As promised here are my lab results from Friday compared to same time last year

April 2022:
LDL Cholesterol, Direct 163 H ≤99 mg/dL
Cholesterol 231 H ≤199 mg/dL
Cholesterol/HDL Ratio 7.3 H ≤4.9
HDL Cholesterol 32 L ≥40 mg/dL
NonHDL Cholesterol 199 H ≤129 mg/dL
LDL Cholesterol, Calculated 173 H ≤99 mg/dL

April 2023:
LDL Cholesterol, Direct 140 H ≤99 mg/dL
Cholesterol 206 H ≤199 mg/dL
Cholesterol/HDL Ratio 7.2 H ≤4.9
HDL Cholesterol 29 L ≥40 mg/dL
Non-HDL Cholesterol 177 H ≤129 mg/dL
LDL Cholesterol, Calculated 149 H ≤99 mg/dL

Yes, I have room for improvement, but as you can see my results are heading in the right direction without the use of statins. As mentioned before I'm on a keto based diet eating mostly eggs, bacon, beef and a small amount of leafy green veggies. Chicken and turkey now and then along with some high cocoa content (>85%) chocolate and intermittent fasting.

Nice movement on those numbers!
