Isn't the desire to be free of attachments an attachment in itself?

I'm not really up to speed on Buddhism but that struck me as a bit of a catch 22.

I was born and raised a Roman Catholic, but never really believed in the whole mumbo jumbo. I promised my parents I would stay in the church until I made my confirmation, which I did at age 13.
I immediately left the church after fulfilling my promise and never looked back.
I am a non-believer or atheist.
