He just received the valued and respected endorsement of the New Hampshire Union-Leader. Joseph McQuaid, the newspaper's publisher, gave his support to Christie on this morning's Meet the Press, calling him the "most outsider - insider in Washington," "has US Attorney experience (where he pursued terror related cases, a major plus with national security becoming an increasingly important campaign issue)," "has weathered Bridgegate with, at this time, no direct involvement / connection to the scandal," and "is a straight shooter and is Trump-like, but can actually back up his claims with facts."

So, is Christie the dark horse, with the potential to surprise everyone by making a comeback in the final stretch? Or is he too far down in the polls, and has no chance to recover?

Hard to say. The looney tune that this campaign has become is far beyond anyone's ability to predict. Certainly the endorsement will give him a boost - at least in New Hampshire, although the Union-Leader is not what it once was in terms of impact - neither are any other papers like the Times and the Post. Bridgegate is not over - not by a long shot. As the trials loom, someone will make a deal to save themselves, and then we will see. Christie has other issues on the back burner that can still boil over, but for him, this is good news.

Quite surprising that they endorsed a candidate polling at 3%, ignoring the current front runners. Clearly trying to shift the spotlight. It will be interesting to see how Christie uses this endorsement in the upcoming days and weeks, or if it simply gives him a temporary boost, and dies.

I don't think endorsements by that paper carry much weight. I just did a search and they chose Steve Forbes in 2000, McCain in 2008, and Newt Gingrich (!) in 2012. So this week Trump will start his tear down on both the paper and Christy.

I don't think Christy has a record he can run on over the long term. The economics of his state are bad with all the credit downgrades, he's too fat, and the whole straight talk bully persona was old long ago.

The right would rather be "right" that win . . .
