Serves them right for not hiring a natural blonde to do the job. I've always said bleach and peroxide kills the brain cells.
On a side note maybe she thought they could dub it after the take.
But seriously there is no excuse.

The only saving grace tonight was the game. I'm not a football fan, but it was nice to see the Packers win the SB without Brett Favre.

As much as I love Fergie....I would say, she was just awful.....didn't seem to "sing", more like yelling a song

That's what you get when someone is trying to over-impress, instead of just sincerely relying on their talent.

Concentrating on all that unnecessary change up totally messed her up

Incredibly difficult, I'd imagine. That's a lot of pressure.

It happens. She could've been worse.

Many lesser 'stars' have handled it very well. The 'hard' part has not been the words. And sadly this wasn't her first time fucking up the words (see Pro-Football Hall of Fame performance).
"The Star-Spangled Banner" is a notoriously difficult song to sing, though the problem most performers have is with the range of the song, not the words.

Well, you go stand on a stage with a collective audience that large and sing it. Most people dread a damn speech in front of a class of 20, let alone something like that.

Seriously, one goof-up and everyone is out for blood blaming the individual and never considering the situational factors. It's a chance occurrence, someone is bound to mess up the National Anthem every once in a while!

    A little history:
She garbled the words at the Pro Football Hall of Fame exhibition game in Canton, Ohio, her home state. She later told The Associated Press: "That was definitely life's most embarrassing moment."
Apparently she's topped that most embarrassing moment by talking it national.

Well she's got me beat if that's only happened twice in her career. I probably garble my words twice a week, and that's during personal encounters.

agreed they all seemed out of breath of 'shouting; (er..."singing")

    ugh.

was anyone else waiting for Lea Michelle (who did an excellent job as she is a SINGer not a PERFORMer) to break out in 'jazz hands'?

Not a fan of hers but it is a difficult song. I think America The Beautiful would be a better choice as our National anthem.

Of course, anyone noticing the trash on our highways and streets, would beg to differ.

Would've been hard with like 100m ppl watching.

People stuff up our anthem all the time - especially that woman who sent a box of plums to the Queen every year, cos she mistook 'Send her victorious' for 'send her victorias'.

she is a world class performer on the stage. she makes her living performing... I expect perfection!

would you be so forgiving if you paid $100 for a concert ticket and your favorite star botched the most important song of the night?

last week I saw an 8 year old girl sing the National Anthem... and she got it right the first time.
