The National Review is a neoconservative rag... the magazine was founded to reinvent conservatism as an American intellectual tradition. In it's earliest inception, it was rather cavalier in it's taking on of the right wing's most radical fringes like the John Birch Society. To say that the magazine was influential on conservative American politics is an understatement.
