I believe the concept of hate speech entails abusive speech that targets a specific group / identity. Given that original sin is a condition that Christians hold all humans to suffer from, it's unclear how it could be in any way related to hate speech as we commonly conceive of it.

So you think frightening a specific group called children with eternal torture isn't hate speech? Then what of a specific group called non-Christians? Shit out of luck for being born in the wrong religion are they? Burned for all eternity because of it?

What of a specific group called women? Is it not hate speech to teach little girls that the first woman was created as a afterthought because the first man was lonely? That the creator god and his redeemer son are and always were male? That the universe was created for man not woman? That the curse of original sin is the fault of the first woman? That everything was fine until she duped the first male? That the gates of hell were opened because of her? That all women will birth children in pain because of her? That a woman's job is make babies and raise children while men run the household and the larger world?

If you don't then you don't know what hate or hate speech is. Or you justify it--the calling card of the religious. That pathetic, hate-filled myth still reverberates across the Abrahamic world today shitting on women and anyone who rejects the myth.

As for you, I'm left wondering why you feel the need to shit on the sincere spiritual journey of another poster who was just sharing her experience in good faith?

All I asked @Scarletbegonia was what she was seeking and why if she's a non-theist is she seeking it in a place like a synagogue which is as theist as it gets.

How could you possibly see my honest question as me shitting on her faith? I'm just curious about her process. She's under no obligation to answer.

Touched a nerve have I, malakos, that would cause you to violate TOS and call me a dick?

This:

Plus being "Jewish and a seeker."

If you're not a theist what is it you're seeking at a synagogue?
The latter isn't any of your business.

Seeking is a search for questions and answers, truths or facts, ways of interpreting the mysteries. A quest for the likeminded. Finding my freaks.
Family of choice, reconnecting with the family that made young me.

I didn't mourn my loss of faith. I'm thoroughly, unapologetically atheist. I had a knife pulled in me for it at an age I can't disclose. I've been assaulted for my lack of beliefs. But I never mourned losing my Catholic beliefs. At one point I did believe, I felt obligated. I felt guilty. I thought that's how I was supposed to feel. When I realized I didn't have to I came out basically immediately to everyone.

My family mourned. They couldn't accept it at first. Eventually they understood.

I was not accepted, though. God was forced on me constantly. Sometimes violently.

After going through that, I would never try to force someone to think the way I do. As long as religious people don't force their beliefs on me, I will NOT try to take theirs away.

Edit: I phrased some of this kinda backwards. My parents were never violent, but society was. It took time for my family to be ok with my atheism but it wasn't easy. I didn't miss God, but I did miss feeling like I belonged somewhere.

And you shat on my ethnicity and what faith I have.
So yeah it is a dock move.

I did no such thing. I took your reference to Judaism as religious not ethnic. The topic was faith & religion not ethnicity.

I didn't understand what faith you have. That's why I asked what you seek. I have a better idea now. Thanks for your answer.

It always amuses me when atheists choose to berate and bludgeon in the same manner as, say southern baptists.

Still evangelizing.

Religiosos of all faiths wrote the book on evangelizing not atheists. Hmmm... let me see... in the Torah what's the punishment for non-believers and apostates? Oh right. Death. ;)

Yes. I was church hurt when a report came out about abuses and we found out we had interacted with a few of the guilty men.
I did not lose my faith because the men are not the faith. Same as I didn't lose my faith in medicine when my family doctor of 20 years was charged with sexually molesting (adult) patients. He was a great doctor, even though he was a criminal.
