    Church plans Quran-burning event - CNN.com

This is mad. In a....nonsensical display of sheer intolerance, another man takes a religion and distorts its messages to suit their own warped view of the world and get a thrill from the ability to have people follow him like sheep.

He has a facebook group, which im yet to find, but lets see if we can get as many reports on it as possible.

It is almost as bad a building a Mosque at ground zero, but they have the right to burn it so they should exercise that right.
I think both sides need to think about what the hell they are doing.

Theres already a thread on the Mosque-ground zero episode but its 2 blocks away, not AT Ground Zero. That is a fact and is not open to argument.

Building a Community centre with a Mosque Prayer room is never as confrontational as burning a holy book.

Well first of all I think most all religions interpret most everything to suit their own views. To me this is just another example of.... Just because you can do something or have the legal right to do something does not mean that you should.
It really is twisted but many of the f**ked up things people do; they seem to feel because it's legal that god or whoever is on their side.

Not every group of people practising religion should be called a church.
The burning should not be allowed.

The truly obnoxious thing about people who firmly believe they know what God wants is... God invariably agrees with them.

These people are fucking idiots! It doesn't matter which religion's right or wrong. It's these kinds of people who make religion wrong! These sorts of actions NEVER affect positive change.

"Dove World Outreach Center"-- How apt.

If and when this does occur, I hope it gets very little press. I fear what the potential reaction would be like.

What i was saying, tongue in cheek, is that just because you have the right to do something, does not mean you need to exercise that right; sometimes common sense can go a long way.
Just not where religion is concerned i guess.

No matter how much I may despise Fred Phelps it appears that the courts have just upheld his right to spew his hatred. Back to what I just got bitch slapped for saying in another forum... "Just because you have the legal right to do it, does not make it the right thing to do!"

I think I already made my position on the mosque fairly clear- I dont think it's a wise move- precisely because of the reactions it's getting and will get- but they have the lgal right to do so. Burning stuff is another matter- and SCOTUS has been a bit iffy on burning as an expression of free speech.

I really doubt they would rule that burning a book isn't free speech.

Sadly, that's right on the money, and it seems like they do it to get the money from those that are sympathetic to "their cause" and just to be a look at me "attention whore" trying to spread their message of hate.
