The ban on male circumcision is now prevented in California. In June the Anti-Defamation League condemned a comic book, created by suporters of the anti-circumcsion movement, which contained grotesque anti-Semitic imagery. A CA judge in late July struck down and removed the November ballot because it would infringe on religious freedom. Today (October 3, 2011) Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill preventing local authorities, including San Francisco, from banning the practice of male circumcision. Justice has prevailed. The hate mongers have lost. I for one am grateful.

I believe that families, doctors, and Jews and Muslims, have the right to have boys, adolescents, and adults remain intact or, if they wish, circumcised. It is a private and religious matter.

A few panels in #2 of an obscure comic out of San Diego showed an ugly mohel. You should have seen Doctor Mutilator in #1! Like Jabba the Hutt, he was! This is a reason babies genitals should be cut?
A CA judge in late July struck down and removed the November ballot because it would infringe on religious freedom.
It would have protected the religious freedom of the people most directly concerned.
Today (October 3, 2011) Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill preventing local authorities, including San Francisco, from banning the practice of male circumcision.
More than that, it's outlawed any restriction on anyone with any or no training circumcising any male under 18. Talk about back street!

But if they decide that boys are to be circumcised, the adults can't remain intact, can they?
It is a private and religious matter.
Yes, it's a very private matter. What right do "families" have to interfere with a man's ownership of his own genitals?

I really don't understand the special pleading over religious beliefs on this issue. Religion is an intensely personal issue that's important to many people. I respect that. So is autonomy over one's own body. I don't think people should impose their religion irreversibly on someone else's body, even if it is their kid. Some disagree. But how can you believe that the right to impose a religious rite on a kid is super-fundamental, all while acting like it's totally unreasonable to hold bodily autonomy as important? Do you get what I'm saying? I can't understand how one can be passionate about the former and casually dismiss the latter like you seem to be doing.

This whole total religious freedom of the US that can only be explained historically when there were so many prosecutions in Europe. Would it permitted in the US to perform human sacrifices? Obviously not. So there is a limit to religious freedom in the US too...

Right. All the guys who have foreskins want to be circumcised, and are jealous of you. That's why we anti-circs want it banned. What school of logic did you attend?

The hate mongers won? Where the fuck do you get off?
How is it hateful, to not want a child subjected to a surgery it doesn't need, and which does not benefit him. It doesn't make his life any longer, or any better. You want to see a hate monger, stand in your bathroom at the sink, and open your eyes.

How does this sound to you?

Agree, or disagree, circin867?

Ha! Anti circs eat your hearts out. Law and governor won the day.
What, did you just hear about the San Francisco bill being struck down when it happened about a year ago? I guess that shows this is just a recreational pursuit for you. In any case, the law was merely taken off the ballot because its passage would violate a state law which prevents local statutes from affecting health care professionals. A technicality, hardly a defeat of the bill itself. It'll be back.

Pot calling the kettle? Now that is hilarious.
Long dead thread resurrected by pro-circ with an insult to all anti-circs, is allowed to die again, then resurrected again by a different pro-circ with an insult to an anti-circ. In a supreme irony, his comment was directed at the guy's attempt to ressurect a dead thread on the subject, which you just did. Who here needs a life exactly?

Since you've decided to drum up these old threads, it must mean that you have an answer for Sorrels' study now right? Fine-touch pressure thresholds in the adult penis - Sorrells - 2007 - BJU International - Wiley Online Library You can do it Sargon, just pick any meaningful part of the study and tell us why he's wrong. We'll wait.

If the law is an outright ban, it will cause serious problems. First kid that has paraphimosis will likely lose how penis because doctors will not be allowed to circumcise him.

What about guys with real phimosis ? they will have to wait until they are 18 to see their glans for the first time ?

Or perhaps travel to a town outside fo SanFrancisco's jurisdiction to get it done.

If they want to educate parents on whether baby circs are necessary or not, that is fine. But banning all circs until the male is 18 is blatantly stupid. An example of the rabid anti circers going too far.

If this passes, expects jews to take the law to the supreme court as the law prevents them from practicing their religion. (same with muslims since with muslims, boys are expected to be cut before entrering puberty, which years before he reaches the age of 18).

You can't treat true adult acquired phimosis until the man's fully grown, bud. True phimosis can be fixed without circumcision, anyway. True phimosis is incredibly rare. Para-phimosis is also easily fixed without surgery.

As for the Jewish folks, I don't give a fuck...but yeah, they can go somewhere else...just like the Muslim folks do for their girls. I would vote yes to ban RIC.

Plastic surgery and body modification are personal, adult decisions. You cannot make that decision for someone else without ignoring their rights.
