"You're forgetting some of Obama's biggest fans...the ones that don't work at all and just ask for free shit"

Word up.
Since when did bankers, stockbrokers and the insurance industry become fans of Barack Obama?

Asshat. Why don't you just say the word? You're dying to say it. WELFARE. Ever since Reagan used the totally mythical Cadillac driving welfare queen to help get himself elected the word has been used repeatedly. Oh and he never mentioned race then again he didn't have to.

Republicans and Race

I think it is funny to call it class warfare when asking investment bankers to pay the same rate on their capital gains as plumbers pay on the fruits of their labor.

But they "earned" that capital gain... <sarcasm>

I think it's rather amazing that we're still discussing less than 1% of US households paying more income tax, vs no increase for 99% of households. Why should money earning money be more valuable (and less taxed) than someone who lifts boxes all day?

Let's see 99% vs 1% let's see who wins.

you know...............a lot of what you just wrote could be applied to the corporate CEO's -- you know -- the ones that don't work at all (at least they never seem to know just HOW their company got driven into the dirt aka Kenny Lay) and just ask for Corporate welfare (and all those BIG FREE loopholes they take advantage of)!!!!

Sorry folks -- didn't realize that both Vince & Lurker had thought of the same irony!! Hey -- great minds think alike!

It *is* funny that you ever believed that!

..........but you see -- "Class" REALLY has to do more with character and integrity than it does JUST money. The really "old" money in this country has evolved over time into people who have learned over successive generations how fortunate they truly are to have made their wealth in a nation like ours. They were the proud Americans who helped build the nation that built them. The Rockefellers, the Kennedy's, even the Carnegies (and there were a lot fewer of those robber barons than there are today) gave BACK -- proudly because they wanted their names to be remembered among the great American families. The founding Fathers SPENT fortunes helping to make the country what it is. I believe Warren Buffet & Bill Gates have similar outlooks, but we may have to see what their children do with all that money they will inherit. Sam Walton had class. I fully believe that if he were alive today he'd line up all of his TOP managers and have them fired (first maybe flayed -- then fired). I can hear him say, "What in the hell have you done to my company? What is all this Chinese shit doing in my stores? 37% profit wasn't ENOUGH for you? You may have built this into the biggest retail company in the world -- but you've done it with little integrity and you've actually HURT this nation all for the Almighty Dollar! Now give these workers a raise and get this crap off of my shelves -- this has been, is now and always will be an AMERICAN company!"
Any Walton's out there with big dicks listening??? Grandpa would NOT be pleased!!
The Koch brothers?? In 20 years their name will only be remembered for the great harm they've caused to a "system" that used to give hope to the average man. I know Janitors who have more "class" than these 2! I imagine their remains will lie in a "gated" cemetery!

Real class never says, "Do you KNOW who I AM?" Real Class is when the average person speaks your name reverently because they KNOW not only WHO you are, but also WHAT you are!! Mother Theresa was a classy lady (not American sadly) Dr. Jonas Salk was a classy American!

I think the founding fathers partly were escaping persecution, which is priceless, but mostly planned to make loads of money from the new territories. As to billionaires, yes, the great thing about personal wealth is it is up to you what to do with it. The down side, is its up to you what you do with it. But I'd suggest most wealth nowadays isnt personal and belongs to institutions, whose shareholder instructions and legal obligation is to make more at any cost. Companies by law are required to give their workers the worst possible deal they can.

Hey, you know what oppressive country they were fleeing from?

Only two were born in England. Sixty-five out of seventy-four delegates to the 1776-77 convention were born in the 13 colonies.

Yes . . . born in colonies, not a nation in its own right. So there was a certain amount of "fleeing" still to be done.

Eh, there will be a world-wide class war, with the pitchforks and guns and whatever else people can get their hands on. How long it lasts and how many will die in it remains to be seen.

ok. You reckon its not fair someone who pays zero tax gets all benefits the state provides. So Lets make things fairer. Lets give everyone the same tax rate and the same dollar rate per hour. Then its just how many hours they work and they can each pay the same total tax per hour worked.

I have no idea what you're trying to suggest.

Really? I'm suggesting that it is no more unfair that people pay different tax rates than that they get different pay rates. There is no justification for the wild difference in pay rates which currently exist. Those with the power to do so have given themselves huge pay rises.

What you mean like $25,000,000 for not even a full year's worth of work? Or how about an interim CEO who made $3.6M in 3 MONTHS of "work" (it's in the link at the end).
