Since we on LPSG tend to spend our time arguing on a lot of topics that we can never usually all agree on, here is something we probably can all agree on.

you can play as little as you like or as much as you like, you can make it easier or harder, but all you have to do is get a vocabulary word correct, and for every word you get correct, a sponsor will donate 20 grains of rice to feed the hungry on our planet.

I hope we can leave this in here and not put it in the games forum since this is more than just a game.

I have been playing for a few days now after someone sent me the link, and maybe some of you will pass it on to a friend, who can do as much or as little as they want...it is so simple a way to help, that we can all feel good about...

it also keeps a running total of how many grains you have donated with each word you get right...

I feel pretty good that i have gotten about 800 words right thus far, donating about 16000 grains of rice.

this has been online since october 2007, and has already donated over 37.1 billion grains of rice to feed the hungry.

also explore the site and watch their nice video.

since we at LPSG like to use our vocabulary so much on so many different topics, here is a chance to do something good with it. Whether you do one word, or you decide you enjoy it so much you do 20 questions a day, remember, it feeds someone for very little effort.

apparently,There are over 29,000 grains of rice in one pound (based on long grain white rice).

so far by my count those of us in this thread that have published our numbers have so far accumulated a bit over 40,000 grains!

so that is about 1.38 pounds of rice so far

which is about 25 1/2 cup servings.

hooray

it takes 20,000 grains to feed one person for a day...so just the few clicks we all made as fed 1 person for two days (or two people for 1 day)

in its first five months, FreeRice generated enough rice to feed more than one million people. The first FreeRice donations have gone to purchase rice:

  • In Bangladesh, to feed 27,000 refugees from Myanmar for two weeks. Please click here to watch FreeRice being distributed in Bangladesh.
  • In Cambodia, to provide take-home rations of four kilograms of rice for two months to 13,500 pregnant and nursing women.
  • In Uganda, to feed 66,000 school children for a week.
  • In Nepal, to feed over 108,000 Bhutanese refugees for three days.
  • In Bhutan, to feed 41,000 children for over 3 days.
  • In Myanmar, to feed 750,000 cyclone affected people for 3 days.

Can hillary supporters and mccain supporters read?:biggrin1:

Well, see, that's the problem with being a voter. You don't have to be educated at all or know how to read very well. Any bumbling idiot with access to CNN can automatically become a "political expert." Funny part is, the ammunition they use in their smear campaigns and arguments is often erroneous like the people who believed Hillary was really a man or that Barack's wife made some whitey comments. They think blogs are like the bible and take every word they read on the internet as gold, especially if it fits their agenda.

marley, i appreciate that you like a good political discussion, as we all do, but can we please cease all political discussion in this thread?

This is about helping hungry people, not politics.

in the time taken to argue about politics in this thread, you could be be clicking away and making a difference to a starving person.

thanks
