I'll say it again. What are they good for? I've never really been into the club scene, but am curious to the appeal of it. What seals the deal when deciding on a night on the town?

I use to be in the salsa club every friday and saturday night...it was an ego boost and it made for a very, very fertile hunting ground for the good time I hadn't had yet.
I got to dance, flirt, rub up against men who knew how to move their hips and possibly spend the night with one who caught my fancy.

These days I don't need to go out hunting but I do love to dance with men who know how to use their hips, to flirt, drink a few mojitos.

I have the same feeling. I'm 22 and am not into the whole club thing...ever have been either. I guess the whole "loud music, sweaty gyrating drunkenness" thing doesn't appeal to me.

Have you ever gone with your SO? If so what was that like? I only ask because i've some not so good experiences with clubs and SOers. Either they or i got jealous and a good night was not had.

I agree, but a salsa club does sound intriguing.

Oh well precious I guess you can tuck yourself up into bed early with your bible and glass of hot milk instead of posting on a porn site dedicated to big dicks then, huh.
Because that has SOOO much more class, right?

Haha what crawled up your ass today, hun? I said it doesn't appeal to me, not that people shouldn't do it. Whatever floats your boat though.

Just fyi, I don't drink hot milk or read the bible. Neither of those appeal to me either

I was just curious. Not judging anyone on anything.

No no no, you're fine. I think Dragon is just having a bad day. *shrugs*

Salsa club does seem more intriguing than an overpacked club with blaring music, I agree. I hear salsa dancing is quite the workout as well!

Being a piano player and a classical music lover, I absolutely despise the club environment, mainly because of their hideous choice of music and especially the volume of it. It pretty much kills whatever fun I would've had if I didn't care about music.

On the other hand, if I go to a concert where they play a piano concerto that I really like, that's like heaven for me.

Clubbing to have a dance to music you love is awesome. Clubbing to socialise is a bit shit, though for ages I convinced myself I enjoyed it. Gimme a nice pub (or even an average one!) and I'm far happier these days.

It depends on the club. There are different kinds with different music and different types of people in them.

I worked in one that I couldn't stand, a real meat market where the music was so loud customers had to shout to order their drinks and conversation was impossible. I don't understand the point of that. The one I enjoyed most was a gay club but only about half the people there were actually gay and it had an area that was separate from the dance floor where you could order drinks and play pool and actually talk. I thought that hanging out there was a good way of weeding out a certain kind of man, since the ones I didn't want to date wouldn't step foot in a place like that.

There's one here I've been to that plays a lot of the music I love. It's a bit overrun by hipsters, though, but that's sort of hilarious, too, from a people watching standpoint.

I am thinking of joining a club of some sort-- maybe the local ancient earthworks society or something, just to get out more. The Internet is full of .nings in the meantime. I'm in lots of those.

Or I could actually go to the Audubon meetings instead of just reading the magazine.

I've never been to a club in the US, but I've been to a few in Europe, and I can't say I liked it. I'm an introvert and shy (and when you toss in a language barrier, that just makes it that much more unpleasant for me), so the whole experience is just not too fun for my personality type. (Unless I'm really drunk.)

Thanks for all the response's. I still don't see me ever actually having a good time in a regular club but there seems to be a large helping of other kinds out there. Think i'll give a few a try one of these days.

When I was in my early twenties, I loved going to clubs. I loved dancing! My friends and I would dance for hours - with each other, with guys that may or may not get lucky. My favourite clubs were the gay clubs with my gay friends - we'd have such a good time and no pressure. After the clubs would close, go for coffee or breakfast.

I go to book club now.
