Ok, I was almost with you until the line about the smooching and such. No, I get all that. I've been in plenty of locker rooms and in competitions and seen the male bonding that occurs, but I maintain the word mystery because at bottom (no pun intended), that's what it is. I mean, why a slap on the ass? Maybe a coach should grope his wrestler after a win.. or smooch him... or hug him like a dad... or do a little dance. There is an infinite number of possible responses, so why THAT one?
(and I doubt that anyone thinks of potential injury as an aspect of ass slapping. That seems unrealistic.)
Man c’mon, be serious. Are you really trying to conflate what is often a harmless gesture of encouragement i.e. a slap on the ass with an overtly sexual act such as kissing or groping?
A slap on the ass in a locker room or on a playing field differs greatly from a slap on the ass in say an office building or restaurant.
And fwiw, groping or kissing someone/anyone who hasn’t consented to it is wrong and should earn the offender a swift punch in the face/balls or both.
Also , what locker rooms have you been in where you haven’t witnessed some hugging at some point or some goofy dancing? Some sad ones would be my guess.
Sports are an intimate thing. That intimacy can take on many forms that you don’t normally see between men often off the field. It doesn’t have to mean what it usually does off the field either.
