That last gif of the guy in green touching the thigh of his wrestler is yet more confirmation that what wrestlers engage in is 'homosocial" behavior. That is, tho' not necessarily homosexual, it is a kind of bonding between men that says, "We both have cocks and balls, we're totally driven by our body's needs, and only certain types of guys really understand that about other guys. Therefore, it's acceptable for us to touch each other in public in the intimate parts of our bodies. It's a physical connection that jumps "gaps" (just as thoughts jump synaptic gaps) between men. And men CRAVE that from other men, especially male authority figures like coaches as well as peers like teammates. That's why guys in groups at, say, camps or in military situations, spend a lot of time clowning around by showing off their cocks and balls to each other or to a cell phone. They all want to do it together. Men need men to admire and they need men who are admiring."

You're right, @mplsingleguy . That was so well stated... men have always craved the touch of other men. As a gay man, some of my favorite memories involve straight men in "masculine" settings (warehouse, auto repair shop) who, out of the blue, decided to massage my shoulders for a minute or two.

I had a principle that was a notorious for this. It was all innocent but I remember people making jokes about how the principle would be in the hall telling us to get to class and would be smacking people on the ass while doing it. Nobody thought it to be sexual because he'd coached sports before becoming a teacher and principle. It was just a habit that he never seemed to let go of. He'd hug females like a father would hug a daughter and guys would sometimes get the one-sided hug or more often than not the butt pat.

Agreed. Our track coach in High School used to give the guys a slap on the ass when we had a good run or time trial. It was never odd, or weird. It was just his way of saying job well done. We trusted our coach, and this was his way of affirming our work.
I have been slapped on the ass in a team sport way, and slapped in the ass while plowing someone, they are very different.

I was the manager of the basketball team for 4 years. The basketball coach was a bit of a homophobe, and I was very much in the closet at the time. But he would always slap the guys on the ass all the time. I got plenty of slaps on the ass by him, nothing sexual was implied.

As someone who didn't play sports and didn't really like them until the last 10 years or so I always thought it was an odd thing to do. I don't think there is really anything sexual about it, just a quicker and in some ways less intimate than a hug yet more affirming than just a pat on the back or shoulder.

That being said I wouldn't mind seeing more photos if they get posted :)

I just happened on a youtube video of old "Whose Line Is It, Anyway?" and one of the improv scenes "From a Hat" (if you know that game) was "Places where the athletic butt slap would be inappropriate."
I can't remember any now but if I find it, I'll post.

I guess it is... Just use Google translate. However, my view on such matters, is far from that of the majority. There's no carnal lust in this action. A slap on the ass is just a way of expressing happiness or simply a way of praising an athlete... caressing an athlete's ass and pulling the singlet towards the butrcrack is another story

I agree that it's not really sexual. That's why in a previous post I used the term "homosocial" which isn't really overly or directly sexual. I think it's connected to power and sexuality tho. I mean, why slap the guy on the ass and not, say, clap him on the shoulders? Or, if one wanted to go to the other extreme, why not cup his balls as a guy-to-guy gesture of support (er... so to speak)? I've heard that there are certain indigenous tribes where the men go naked and they greet each other by grabbing penises. Dunno if that's true....

That's not true at all - except in the imagination of the creator of this thread:

Ritual

https://nypost.com/2018/03/10/genital-grabbing-used-to-be-a-way-to-say-hello-in-australia/:
And as recently as the 1950s, Scott writes, it wasn’t uncommon for an aboriginal tribe in Australia to say hello via genital grabbing. Aussie anthropologist M.J. Meggitt reported that men of the Walbiri, upon visiting each other, would place their penises in their host’s hands. “To refuse a penis,” Scott writes matter of factly, “was a sign of hostility.”

It’s no wonder that, here in America, we’ve settled upon a quick handshake as our greeting of choice.
