Well, who knows for sure about Cro-Magnon Man, but I am sure there has been variation in the size of mens penises for a very, very, very long time. I am also sure that whenever someone was in a position to see a lot of dicks, either in single gatherings or individually over time, he or she became cognizant of the variation. However, since very large cocks are uncommon, I suspect seeing one for the first time back in the day was quite a revelation. Nowadays, with the advent of modern porn and with more relaxed social mores on the topic, I think many more people are more conscious that some men are well hung and some are not.
Men have seen the penis of other men for centuries and women have seen a few as well. Looking back to the Bible in Genesis chapter 17, verses 22-27 "When he had finished talking with him God went up from Abraham. No mention of who it was who circumcised Abrahham (or maybe I missed that verse).
Now since so many were circumcised that day and since some were adults, it stands to reason that difference in size was known of existing at that time.
Going back over the centuries there were large bathing areas where the men would gather, and I believe it was ancient Rome which had those large commode areas where all the men exercised their bowels daily, surely as they lifted their robes to sit or as they stood, there were many times when the penis was seen. Albeit, the penis was most likely flacid; yet, it still was seen and if a whopper were around, it was going to be observed, and probably mentioned even if only in small groups of men.
During anciet times however, a small penis was revered, not a large penis, if my history is correct.

The angle one views the statue makes all the difference. I teach history. I really think the idea of small penis whorship is something more historians have taken liberty with. They also lump many people together with these comments when it may only apply to one small group for a particular reason.
