WATER

#1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
(Likely applies to half the world population.)

#2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak
That it is mistaken for hunger.

#3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.

#4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs
for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of
Washington study.

#5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

#6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of
water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain
for up to 80% of sufferers.

#7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term
memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on
the computer screen or on a printed page.

#8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of
colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast
cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop
bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water
you should drink every day?

COKE

#1. In many states the highway patrol carries
Two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from
The highway after a car accident.

#2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke
And it will be gone in two days.

#3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the
Toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour,
Then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes
Stains from vitreous China.

#4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers:
Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds
Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

#5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour
A can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble
Away the corrosion.

#6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola
To the rusted bolt for several minutes.

#7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into
The baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake.
Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

#8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke
Into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run
Through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen
Grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your
Windshield.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

#1. the active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid.
It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric
acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major
contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.

#2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup! (the concentrate) the
commercial trucks must use a hazardous Material place
cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

#3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean
engines of the trucks for about 20 years!
Now the question is, would you like a glass of water?

or Coke?

But coke is oh so yummy :p

edit- throwing something constructive out of pure guilt, agree'd there are lots of negative things about the properties of coca cola, but, when taken in moderation there is no harm in it.. so even i would still stand by my answer, that, like all things, if taken in moderation, there is no harm in drinking it :)

Growing up in my house, we never had soda. My parents always said if you want something cold there is ice water or we had iced herbal tea. Didn't really have soda until college and I found coke to be too much for me. Now if I want a cola it is Pepsi, please. Otherwise, it is the Stewart's brand of soda for me.
Other fun facts.
There is more caffeine in orange soda than coke or pepsi.
If you want a really good quick simple cleaner for your jewelry, use Polident.
I kid you not, some drag queen friends of mine swear by it for their jewelry, I've tried it and it works.

Thank god I never drink coke. I am mostly a fan of lemonade. I have a killer recipe for lemonade, but I think most of you would find it too sour. My recipe is as follows:

2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice (or just bottled 100% lemon juice)
4 cups water
1/4 cup sugar

Mix all of these until combined.

You guys can add more sugar if you want - I just like to limit my sugar intake, and I just love the sourness of lemons.

#2 from the above has actually been proven not to be true by the guys from the Dicovery Channel show Mythbusters. They showed that the Coke will 'tenderize' the meat but not dissolve it completely, and they left it sitting for a much longer time (a week, I think). They tried a few of the others mentioned, with the cleaning of rust from chrome being the only one which really worked. If I recall correctly the loosening of bolts did not work at all, and the cleaning of blood stains from asphalt worked fairly well.

Now, i do not drink Coke often, but I do drink 'coke' way too much, Dr. Pepper being my favorite. On average, I'll drink 2-3 cans of coke a day! I do drink a lot of water though. On most occasions I'll grab both a can of coke and a bottle of water to drink when I'm thirsty.

Coke also has 16 tablespoon of sugar in each can.

Yes. And sugar content is the main culprit of extra calories in everyone who wishes their body looked different. What's worse, sugar burns so quickly in your system that is basically puts you in an addictive cycle. Eat sugar, feel better. Sugar is gone, feel like shit. Eat More sugar.

So more info on water:
  • By the time you feel thirsty, you are already dehydrated
  • When you are properly hydrated, you should have to urinate every 25-30 minutes
  • When you are properly hydrated, your urine should be clear
  • Dehydration is often mistaken for hunger. Next time you feel hungry, have a big glass of water and wait 10 minutes. You might not have the urge to eat after all.

Coke is only water with flavouring added :) I'd drink more water if it wasn't so boring.
Incidentally I tried cleaning the toilet with coke, it was rubbish, it did absolutely nothing at all. I think a lot of the 'facts' about coke are made up on the spot as most statistics seem to be.

I'm not a big fan of cola drinks but the info you gave about water made me think that the several expressos I drink at work, are probably less effective at keeping the daytime fatigue away than drinking water alone.

From now on, it's water and tea for me.

But nothing compares to Coca-Cola. I really love it.

That being said, I recently I've cut it out of my diet because I was addicted to it and it was having a horrible impact on my teeth.

I've replaced it with fresh lemonade and only occasionally will I have a Coca-Cola now. But I miss it, I'm not going to lie.

Quite interesting.

I knew there were dangers to Coke (and other carbonated beverages) and that sugared drinks were more trouble in some ways than the non-sugared (diet) sodas, the diet items carrying their own sack of woes. I was also aware of the lack of knowledge most people have about keeping hydrated and reading the dehydration signs.

During the hot weather in particular, I keep an eye on hydration, beyond the usual. Several reasons, all health related which are amplified when the temps rise and are triggered even with hydrating, just not to as severe degree as if I let myself get parched..

I tend towards water on a regular basis with only the occasional fizzy drink (and of course my coffee, I can't live without my coffee).
