I guess they are becoming the British equivalent of Creed.

Oh hells no. Coldplay maybe irritating to some. They can write lyrics and can write melodies. Creed is a band that was over-hyped from the jump with a short singer that believed his hype. I saw Creed when a bunch of girls asked me to go with in Germany. General seating - we got up front- he looked like an 80's singer, white poet shirt, black leather pants, he even grabbed my hand in the front row. I felt very odd.

Coldplay may be annoying,
but Scott Stapp of Creed is a douche bag. Overhyped and bunch of runny diahrrea like vocals. "Toh-hoooooooorrrrrrnnnnn..."

They may be becoming creed (competing for the most annoying band on the entire planet award) but i think id rather see the religious freaks porn tape before anything Chris Martin makes.

Could you imagine chris Martin porn:eek: the only thing that could be more boring is if a coldplay album was playing in the background

Well about the funniest Coldplay incident i had, was a few weeks ago i was out in the country, and i was with my friend (the two 36 year olds desperately clinging to their youth) and we had the top of my car down and were listening to Zeppelin and chatting...

so we were listening to "The Ocean" at a reasonable level...then next to us (we were at a stoplight) pulls up another convertible, with two probably 16 year old girls with their junior license or something, with either a friend of theirs or their brother...

they were listening to "Speed of Sound",rather too loudly and singing along, and it was so annoying...we just looked at them, and my friend leaned over and turned up the volume on Led Zeppelin to totally drown them out.

So of course they had a puzzled look on their faces at this quality genius rock music drowning out their beloved Coldplaying...and the light turned green and we roared off rather pleased with our insignificant, yet highly symbolic victory.

Older mid-lifers listening to the greatest rock band ever - 1
Snivelling little brats listening to whiny imitation Radiohead Lite - 0

LOL

They have a lot to answer for being one of the founding bands of this emo feel sorry for yourself, the world is against me whiny bullshit generation

I don't even know if they are EMO...they are sort of too milquetoast for that...

when i think of "EMO" I think of those stupid bands like Fallout Boy.

Coldplay are just soft rock, trying to be like Radiohead without the talent or the artistic subversiveness and "fuck off we make music we want to make" character that defines Radiohead.

Coldplay are just bland, boring, banal middle of the road, play it safe, commercial lite rock.

They have no identity, since they desperately want to be as big as U2 was and as artistic as Radiohead, but they are neither.

EMO are kids desperately trying to be punk rock, when they have never experienced real punk rock.

It is a phony, cheesy bastardization of punk...

honestly, i don't even know how to characterize Coldplay and those other acts like them, that are "soft"...not EMO...it is best characterized IMO as "Saggy Diaper"

well well...you have certainly changed your tune from the guy who showed up in post #4 saying this

I dont buy their cds but I am partial to the odd single - just for the record.

You can just admit you are a massive Coldplay fan, and in the beginning of this thread you were just trying to be pretend you were a neutral sticking up for a band you felt was unfairly slighted...but you have outed yourself as a Coldplay worshipper.

P.S. - Why would i post gay porn, since i am straight? Led Zeppelin has nothing to do with gay or straight porn.

Oh god no their music isnt emo. Shit! they don't have enough personality or attitude for that, just the feel sorry for yourself, " wanna cry shit"

Tell me what the fuck Chris Martin has to be so depressed and melancholy about?

I don't know, but its phony depression and melancholy...which is why the songs don't have any real depth or meaning.

He is not a suffering tormented artist like Kurt Cobain, or Jim Morrison, he is not a person interested in exploring limits and pushing boundaires like Thom Yorke or Trent Reznor.
he is not a genius like Lennon, he is not charismatic or innovative like Hendrix or Clapton...

he is just a plain musician. Nothing really more than that, and it reflects in the music.

Coldplay makes music that matters to people for whom music does not really matter.

I stand by what I said before - Ive never bought a cd. But I dont listen to whole albums much anyway. I tend to just like individual songs by whoever.. I love several Coldplay songs & especially their current one. Im defending them on that basis. And to stop this being a one sided droning hate thread. As for your constant blabberings on the subject, Ill leave it to Shakespeare:

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks"

The thing that irked me was when he called their guitarist "the best guitar player in the world", it was in a televised concert in Toronto, and I was switching channels, and there he was, proclaiming in his annoying high pitched breathy voice that that bald bugger with a tele running on clean with delay playing a G open chord was the best guitar player in the world, I was just left there thinking "and Dimebag had to die..."

I wish Mike Patton would rape his mouth and made him cry.

your last line could not be more apropos...you can just admit you love them

you say it right here in big bold red letters

http://www.lpsg.org/1595122-post58.html

that is a pretty categorical and emphatic statement about your feelings for them.

as for this being a one sided droning hate thread, that is what it was created to be.

You can start a "I love Coldplay" thread if you want.

My main problem is that cold play is a bland band who play generic music to please the masses. They take no risks, push no limits and are simply to predictable. Sure they have a few half descent songs but that is because they are songs you don't expect anything from. You can put them on and know you arent going to be effected by them. They aren't going to move you to push yourself or test your on individuality, they arent going to change a generation or cause waves in society

They are the band that play it to safe

yeah.... he does that alot...like when he said "Bittersweet Symphony" was the greatest song ever written.

fucking loathe him and his hyperbole.

He should just shut up and get on with it.

As if i didn't hate him enough, in this week's Rolling Stone, he finally sent me fully over the edge with this

Do you see any reason for hope?
As soon as Barack Obama becomes president, people will be a bit more optimistic. If Obama was to be president, it would immediately change the whole outside world's opinion of America overnight. America's public image at the moment is really bad. And it's a bummer, because over half of Americans are the coolest people on the planet. But they've been so misrepresented.

Do you think he can win?
I do. But I think that, really, the fair thing would be, in electing the American president, to let everyone in the world vote, because it affects all of us.

and of course, now with their stupid little outfits, any body care to guess who they are trying to subliminally convince you they are like?

I couldn't agree more...the new Rolling Stone article is such a joke with him talking about "the spirit of rebellion in rock and roll"...so far i have seen nothing from Coldplay to suggest they are rebelling or have anything that has the spirit of rock and roll.

The best is what Brian Eno said to them when he agreed to produce their new album

What was his assessment of the band?
He goes, "Your songs are too long. And you're too repetitive, and you use the same tricks too much, and big things aren't necessarily good things, and you use the same sounds too much, and your lyrics are not good enough." He broke it down.

LOL.

bingo.
