i'm headed off to college next year, and wanted to get a sense on what nudity is like on today's college campuses. i've never really been nude in a public setting. i go to a private gym and there are no showers at my school. any advice, experiences, stories? how to dorm showers, locker rooms, roommates, etc, deal with nudity. i thought this thread could be helpful to any teenagers heading off to college in september.

Most colleges have started building showers with individual stalls, if you wish to preserve your modesty. Many of the older and younger guys here think it is kind of unnecessary, although more young guys seem to favor it.

Our school has different dorm styles. Some dorms are "suite" style, where 3 dorm rooms share a single bathroom with one shower, two sinks, and a toilet. The other style is more public (two per floor, several toilets, showers, and sinks), but still has a fair amount of privacy. The showers in those bathrooms are still private, and basically look like toilet stalls with a shower head instead of a toilet bowl. Our locker room showers are communal, though, but that's usually expected in a locker room.

Also, although I've heard a lot of stories on the internet about straight guys going to college and next thing you know they're sucking their roommate's dick, my roommate and i never saw each other naked (frontally). My advice to others is to not assume, after reading some stories about roommate experimentation, that all guys are up for it.

Sex with other girls, though, was a different story. We would both fool around with girls when the other roommate was there, but under the sheets. Our desks faced away from each other so one person could have an excuse to look away and pretend that nothing was going on.

It boils down to how do YOU feel. Sure, there is an overdeveloped sense of puritanical modesty going around today, but if you happen to be seventy three years old and you want to stand with one leg up on a bench with your dick flappin' in the breeze and asking me about swimming, that's your prerogative. Nobody cares if you're walking around naked and nobody cares if you bundle yourself up in your towel and scurry for the individual stalls. Do what your friends do, if that's what you're into, or do what your friends don't and see if they change their minds.

I really don't think most roommates are open about nudity. Most students will be modest, but they probably wouldn't be bothered if you want to show some skin in the locker room. Every guy has a dick and balls. Nothing to be surprised about.

dwightman, the answers to your quetions probably depend on a lot of varables.
As for dorm showers, the age of the buiding may be a factor. Dorms built before 1980 will almost certainly have a large central bathroom/shower room. We had shower cubicles but no curtains, two or three sinks, two three toilets and one urinal. Guys were completely casual about showering and shaving nude but this was in the 70s. Newer dorms are often built suite style.
There are social factors unique to the specific situation. One dorm I lived in had little casual nudity. Guys were naked in the showers, by the sinks, and sometimes walking between their rooms and the showers (most wore a towel). Another dorm I lived in was naked city with nude water fights in the halls, naked guys sitting in the lounge (usually after a shower). One guy would go out into the hall naked every morning and do push-ups and sit-ups for a while. These guys were jocks and used to being naked around guys. I doubt you will encounter anything like that today.
As far as girls in the room, it seems like most guys had some kind of code system.

Just do what comes naturally, In my college is wasnt suite style, In fact it was quite good as we talked openly, and everyone got to know each other very quickly, the best thing to do is to lay down rules first thing, instead of just feeling very arkward.

From my college experience the nudity thing was really dependent on who you hung out with. In the dorms, no one got really nude unless they were drunk. All the showers had private stalls and people wore towels or had robes. I had 4 different roommates in the dorms and never saw any of them naked and one them was gay. I also had a night where a bunch of us went to the local park and all got naked and just ran around and acted silly--that was one of the coolest nights of my college life--it felt so free. However, on the day you can get into your dorm, be there first so you can size up the room to get the best bed and closet. Bring a decent TV, dvd / vcr and your porn collection. I've lived in both suite-style and community-bath style dorms. Nudity is pretty uncommon at my school. I live in a suite style room right now and have never seen my roommate or my suitemates naked.
