Congratulations, Barry. Your campaign has succeeded in turning a one-time patriot, Colin Powell, into a turncoat Obama disciple. A sad day indeed, when a Bush Cabinet member, who championed and defended the policies of the administration, succumbs to racial pressure and political encumbrance.
The nation is divided, half patriots and half traitors, and no man can tell which from which. -- Mark Twain

Too bad. Powell was a hero until today.

man.......you are starting to cross some lines
you are becoming more and more inflamitory

Just b/c someone's political choosings differ from you or anyone else, does not make them any less of an American, a person, a patriot, a hero, or anything else you can think of............ GROW THE FUCK UP

you are worse than Powell, b/c you are downing the man for differing from you. ?He didn't betray his country....but you are saying that his political differences no longer qualify him to be a hero or patriot. Shame on you man.....Shame on you

This goes beyond my political convictions, unabear. Powell was a steadfast supporter of our involvement in Iraq and Afghan. He was our voice in the U.N. and wholeheartedly represented the U.S. foreign policy initiatives post 9/11 in the international community.

He was respected both domestically and abroad as a mindful, objective international leader and expert on international affairs. Now, he's 'found Jesus' and turns on his past. Very disappointing.

This isn't about my political agenda. This is about a turncoat.

God forbid a republican be open minded enough to admit when he's wrong, fuck, what is the world coming to? The man betrayed the country by lying and saying there was proof of WMDs in Iraq, not by turning his back on the lameness of the changed republican party. Wake up brotha, elected republicans are no longer conservative by any means, it's nothing more than a label to get elected to power. The traditional conservative ideals have been gone for awhile, their only platform they truly believe in is lower tax rates for the rich. Before I get a bunch of defensive fux on my back, keep in mind in saying this, I am referring to ELECTED republicans, not the general republican sheeple...all though there are many who have been blinded by the light..revved up like a DOUCHE...you know the rest...

care to put some links or references to your claims? The last I heard of Powell was he was forced to resign as Sec of State for fighting Bush and his cronies on the legality/legitimacy of the war in Iraq. He went against Bush, and got kicked out.

As far as the war in afganistan....I supported then and I support it now. However, we should have finished what we started, instead of starting another (seemingly never-ending) war.

No need to get heated because it's clear that the poster didn't actually watch the interview, it was one of the most clear, balanced and intelligent words broadcast on television in months! You can watch the whole thing on msnbc. He even spoke about a problem that no one has had the balls to approach; Arab/Muslim hate in the US. The idea that Barack wouldn't be qualified because he is Arab is plain and simple racism. So sorry but I'm gonna rant for a second; the republican "base" that is coming out in droves right now are perpetuating the problem that they fear the most, "Islamofacism." So, here's the hard truth, intelligence is important when solving problems, if one can't wrap their heads around the complexities of a situation, then they won't be able to solve that problem. So what am i saying? It appears to me that a portion of the country is not intelligent to understand that they don't understand! Okay, I'm distracted by the idea of large penises. Ummmmmmm, Obama is going to win, and I'm committed to do my part to unify the country, the state of the nation is not good. There seem to be two distinct countries going on here and we are both facing this economy, we need to face it together.

HEY!!!! LOOK AT MY PEINS!!! IT'S BIG!!!

Powell said Bush accepted the resignation Friday, adding, "It has always been my intention that I would serve one term."
For months Powell said he served at the pleasure of the president, suggesting he might stay if asked.
"That didn't happen," the senior official said. But the official also said Powell "never asked to stay and was never asked to leave."

The rest of the article:
CNN.com - Powell resigns with three other Cabinet secretaries - Nov 15, 2004

He's on board one minute, and gone the next. Is he for it, or against it? A la Biden and Obama. Welcome to the club, Colin. Make a decision. Then flipflop. Research and evaluate your initiative, and if it doesn't work perfectly, abandon it and exact blame. Very courageous indeed.

These types of [non]leaders don't make me feel safe and secure. Spare me the Wall Street and deregulation mantra of the Dem platform. Flipfloppers won't protect this country.

Say it, Powell is un-American. Probably a socialist or a undercover Muslim terrorist too. Perhaps Rep. Michelle Bachmann should have him investigated for unAmerican activities. I mean it's impossible to think that Colin Powell would choose the person he thought would be best to hold the office of President of the United States. Too bad one's view of a hero is so flimsy that it changes so easily.

Again, flipflopping is not always a bad thing. It suggests one of two things. Either the flipflopper is doing it for personal gain, or he/she is open minded enough to admit when they were wrong...in the case of Powell, I'm betting on the later

It was clear, balanced and intelligent words? I stipulate that Powell is well-spoken. Clear and intelligent - yes. Balanced - no.

Barack and Arab blah blah blah is romper-room. Nobody educated even discussed that.

Accusing Colin Powell of no longer being a patriot is as low as anything I've seen you write. Your idea of what constitutes patriotism is far removed from my own, and I hope, from the other members of this board.

I'm not a religious person, but you make me wish there were a hell.

Bachmann is an idiot looking for publicity and Party rank. She's an embarrassing politician.

Powell was a key Cabinet member with indisputable intelligence and leadership involvement in our country's foreign policy initiatives. Now he's turning his back on the very people he strategized this war with --- that's not impressive, sorry.

You still didn't give me any references to what YOU were saying. Oh and btw.....I thought John Kerry and democrats were the only politicians capable of 'flipfloping.' God forbid a person become more educated on an issue, and change their mind. That makes them evil.

Too bad. Powell was a hero until today.

You ought to be ashamed of yourself, except it is doubtful that you have the intellect required to understand the concept of shame. There is more than one side to everything and everything is not a matter of black and white. Colon Powell has earned the right, perhaps more than most, to choose whichever candidate he wishes. It is not up to you or anyone else to second guess him. Now with that said, it is obvious what motivates you, you racist prick.

Your thoughtful contributions are much appreciated. Your objectivity is quite impressive as well.

You are much the inspiration on this board - congratulations, Mindseye. Your courageous offerings are popular on a 99% liberal board. In a balanced forum, the results would be a little different. I hope that doesn't get me banned.
