I think that given who he said he was at that time and how he wasn't secure with who he was its wilder he was at a sex club. I think he downplayed how much experience he'd had with gay sex in the few interviews where he ever discussed this in detail. He definitely was not secure with his identity as a gay man, of course, but he knew his way around a cock and probably a bathhouse. I don't think it's all that uncommon for closeted men to go to sex clubs when they're out of town, at least it hasn't been traditionally (now most of that is on the hookup apps).
