It seems to me that If your relationship has been rocky WITHOUT this potentially contentious issue on the table how likely is it that this information witll improve the relationship? Perhaps it is possible that this knowledge would lead to improvement in the relationship OVER TIME. However, I go with the majority and suggest you way until there is no financial dependency. My parents were somewhat difficult for the first couple of years but I was in the postion that I was willing to have one kind of relationship with them, a pleasant one. They eventually worked through it but it took a while and living with them during that time would have been extremely difficult.
