Committee finds Palin abused authority firing brother-in-law but advised that she was within her power to exercise firing him.
You beat me to the punch...but she didn't fire her ex-brother-in-law she fired his boss (Monahan) for not firing Trooper Wooten who is her ex-brother-in-law

so what does this all mean for her, and for the election?

It means that her actions have been found by an Alaskan legislative committee to be in violation of state law. What legal consequences that finding will have for her I don't know, but I expect it to add to the downward trend in support for McCain.

Here is a report, by the way, in case anyone hasn't seen one.

It means that Mavericky Sarah, who has spent much of the campaign slinging mud at Obama, is herself, a lying, vengeful pol.

The report says she knowingly “permitted http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/p/todd_palin/index.html?inline=nyt-perTodd Palin to use the governor’s office and the resources of the governor’s office, including access to state employees, to continue to contact subordinate state employees in an effort to find some way to get Trooper Wooten fired.”

The way McCain has conducted this campaign since the convention demonstrates that when it comes to executive decision making, the man is simply not ready. His lack of judgment is shocking.
