I know that there is another thread about compression shorts. I am wondering if they all are created the same. I have a pair of UA compressions shorts, and do not like them. I especially want them for a spinning class. Jockstraps chafe in such a class. But I find the UA so uncomfortable when walking around, going upstairs, etc. They are fine once I get on the bike and the seat helps support the balls. But when I am walking around I always feel that I have to pull them up to keep them against my balls, otherwise the balls are bouncing around. I like the length, but not the support or the tightness. Is this just the way they are, or is there a better brand?

For the most part that's the way it is. There are different styles that fit differently, but it all comes down to the fact that the tight legs tug at the crotch fabric every time you move your legs. If you want them to stay around your nuts properly you have to get ones with a thinner and less compressive fabric that is more stretchy than resilient (less compressive).
No matter how many companies tell you compression shorts replace a jock--they don't.
This is a real danger for guys who use compression or sliding shorts to hold a cup, there is no way it can stay snugged up like it needs to for the best protection.
Compression shorts are originally made with the idea of keeping glute and hamstring muscles tighter and warmer NOT for support.

I always wear a jock or a cup jock holding the cup first anytime i still want to wear compression shorts or sliding shorts.

IF to have extra sensitive skin that still chafes i would suggest first (depending on what brand of jock you have) wearing the jock wrong side out, some of them are softer on the inside thus would chafe less if worn wrong side out. If the chafing is not directly from the jock then the wearing of compression shorts over your jock should help.
In a last resort find a pair of very soft, thin cotton spandex style boxer briefs that will protect the area of chafing but don't support very well, then wear your jock over them. you get soft and support.
Now if you are in team sports like my wrestlers or anything else i really suggest that if you go that last option, change and shower immediately after your workout since cotton will absorb more sweat and its an organic fabric and thus more prone to bacteria growth like in staph or MRSA. This its why its so scary to hear about these teams that don't wear jocks instead of underwear and don't shower.

WrestlingCoach, you nailed it. Precisely. Comp shorts cups are dangerous when active movement is involved. They simply don't hold the cup in place.
I always wear a jockstrap under my comp shorts if they have a cup. And I ONLY wear the Shock Doc kind that has the small, crossed elastic straps from the base of the pouch. These are the only comp shorts that I've seen that do this, and they do it because it's a jockstrap design and finally someone got smart enough to see the intelligence of the pouch strap design in a jock and put it in a comp short.
There are silkier "fashion jocks" (ugh) if Stanmeister wants a jock that's a little smoother against the skin.

Why don't you simply get decent padded cycling bib shorts for spinning class? Make sure you wear no underwear under them, that's how they are supposed to be worn. Everything stays very snuggly yet gently in place, and you'll you have no chaffing and bouncing.

Actually, I do have cycling shorts--several pairs. I have found that, believe it or not, the chamois hurts my balls when I do spinning, since the class that I am involved in has a lot of up and down movement. I like the idea of putting the jock over the compression shorts, wrestlecoach. I will give it a try. Makes some sense.

Great, but keep in mind this only works if its a pair that is soft and flexible enough to allow the jock to do its job.

I agree with you too. I like to wear compression shorts to workout in, but there is no room for the boys. Compression shorts are not a replacement for a jockstrap. I am on the lookout for a compression short in the underarmour style with a supportive pouch. I am tired of my junk being squished in compression shorts and looking like an Ikea flat pack.

Wait... wearing a jock OVER the comp shorts? That doesn't work. Try UNDER them.

I actually have the same problem with compression shorts too. They do not cup my cock and balls, so frankly no support at all. Stick with a jockstrap. Plus I think they look HOT too!!

I also do spin, but wear just cycling shorts. Definitely not bib shorts, those would look silly, unless you wear a cycling jersey. I get way too warm for that.
I like the LG Equipe shorts, wear those (no underwear) with just a sleeveless top, and cycling socks and shoes that clip in.

Of course when I ride outside I do wear bib shorts.

I tried compression shorts once, but always hated them (who the hell wants his junk "compressed"?). I much preferred boxers (and, later freeballing) for most activities. Obviously, cups are needed for some sports, though.

I wear compression shorts or tights exclusively year round for running and biking and always wear men's thong underwear underneath. Free balling is very uncomfortable to me as my cock and balls end up chafed. My thongs always put my cock subtly out and on display while supporting my package for hours of workouts. Plus I have no undie lines in the pack. If you wear the right brand, made from lycra, and the right size, there is nothing better IMO.

i need support when i work out/run but compression shorts cause major sweating and irritation so i stick with the time-tested bike jock strap under my shorts. way more comfortable.

And your gallery, HJ1958, shows you look great in a jock.
