Are you saying the dollar is only more valuable than two other currencies in the world (!) or that it is worth more than every other country (except for two)?
I think she's referring to how the value of the dollar has gone below that of Canada and Great Britain.

If anyone votes on a candidate based purely on race or gender, please give them a bitchslap. I think policies and ideologies are alot more important.

This is exactly what's been going through my head this entire time since these candidates have been glorified for their "bearings" (so to speak). It's kinda funny, this country has become so concentrated and fascinated with making sure all the races and genders are equaled out, they've forgotten about the actual duties behind the big names. For example, college are required to have a certain percentage of minorities accepted, the best applications are often rejected in favor for a less qualified minority instead. Is this right? Seems to me things are going awfully hollow these days, it's really disappointing...

From what I've heard, the reason England refused to switch to the Euro originally was because their Pound has one of the best worths out of most currencies in the world (tell me if I got my facts messed up or something, much appreciated). With that said, I wouldn't even expect the AMerican dollar to be worth more than the English pound anyway.

The Dollar has never been worth more than the Pound...the problem is that the Dollar is now worth less than the Canadian Dollar...good for Canadians...bad for Americans.

And what's even worse is that it's probably linked to the spending in the Iraq War and the debt we've gone into for it.

Sorry I meant to say that it is less valuable than two countries I think. I'm not positive, but I know we're not number one. If we stop being the currency that everyone looks to for stability, we could see a whole different ball game.

Someone also attributed the weakness of the American Dollar to the spending in the war of Iraq... Amen to that.

You're right about that actually...the slipping of the dollar value is because of the war spending...but, we never were "number one". Great Britain and many other countries have ALWAYS had more valuable currency than us. We just make the biggest stink about it.

Personally, I don't feel America needs to be "number one". We already have a trigger finger on bombs to blow up the Earth itself as a threat to every country, but Russia. I mean, nuclear power is quite possibly the best solution to the energy crisis worldwide, but we don't want anybody to have it because we're scared they'll make nukes and bomb us.

Does this mean we've disproven than war is good for the economy?

well this war was un-necessary. In a case like WWII, war is necessary, and it picks things up. I mean, they needed anything we could give them, so America was forced out of it's depression to do just that. The war in Iraq, what are we gonna do, make more food packets for a war that ended at least 1 or 2 years ago? Whenever you have a crisis in the economy, you just can't go, "Op, war-time!" I don't think it works like that (I could be wrong, I'm not an economics major...). I feel like war picks up the economy is one of those true statements that doesn't really happen all too often...

I think some congrats were already in order, based on the original post, when both a black man and a black woman were recently appointed Secretary of State. Easily a Top 5 most important position in the country. Yet, the mainstream media did little to trumpet the hallmark thereof... because it came from a Republican administration. A shame.

Being overseas you may not realize this but a great number of Southerners and white men nationwide hate her. Not for her poitics or healthcare plan but becasue when she was first lady she hyphenated her name and worse didn't know her place. She didn't act like a presidents wife. Apparently she was supposed to spend her time doing needlepoint and redecorating the Oval Office, or maybe buy some new dishes.

No, we hate her because she is a hypocrite. Before her husband was first elected president, she went around saying she wasn't the type of woman who sits home and bakes cookies. Then she said she wasn't the type of woman who "stands by her man" referencing a Tammy Wynette song. However, she has stood by her man on many numerous occasions and most importantly, the most embarrassing one....Lewinski. As I see it, this is a major character flaw.
There are many things Hillary could have done to break the mold of traditional first lady. She could have kept her job lawyering and while playing a much smaller role in her husbands administrative. Afterall, she is a smart woman and she does have value. Instead, she deliberately made herself a fixture in the White House as if she were co-president and took on a controversial issue as health care. I come from New York and can tell you there are many people (even professional women) who do not like her. What got her elected were the multitude of women who voted for her in the upstate area.

Oh the 'mainstream media' thay let Bush get away with telling 935 lies about Iraq? Or let him get away with impeachable offenses?

Elizabeth Dole ran in the Republican Primaries a few years back. She probably would have made an excellent president.

I'd ask Colin Powell how he feels about his time working in that administration.

I'd ask Colin Powell how he feels about his time working in that administration.

Already in his book. He was in essence fired.

ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2004, eight days after the president he served was elected to a second term, Secretary of State Colin Powell received a telephone call from the White House at his State Department office. The caller was not President Bush but Chief of Staff Andrew Card, and he got right to the point.

"The president would like to make a change," Card said, using a time-honored formulation that avoided the words "resign" or "fire."

Upstate did NOT support her, liberal NYC did that. She didn't deliver on her promise to bring jobs upstate, nestle, carrier etc. left. So not only did she not bring more, some left. we/they cant stand her. we look at her as an outsider to NY, why? because of NYC became senator. She lived in DC, AR and then as only she could do, "let's move to NY" senator my butt! She has done nothing but campaign and travel!

Exactly.

Especially when the war drives up the cost of fuel and the business that is utilized to build war machinations, etc, are outsources to other countries. No, the war does nothing for our economy but make us spend more money.

YURKON.... You are correct that she hasn't delivered on her promises. Knowing the upstate region as I do there is little that any one politician can do to revitalize it and that's another reason why I don't like her. She made promises she knew she couldn't deliver and did so because being a NY Senator was a stepping stone to her desire to be the first woman president. I fear she has little concern for the little people.

Also, my understanding at the time of her first election was yes, the liberal NYC population did vote for her but her support among the boroughs were not that heavy. What pushed her over the top was the upstate women voters. I remember my mother in law, who lives upstate was livid over her peers for voting for Hillary's.
