I mean it was ridiculous enough for the OP to try and link to Pelosi.

There was nothing ridiculous in the OP linking Pelosi to this matter. As Speaker and chief of the House Leadership she holds the responsibility of addressing the conduct of members otherwise she wouldn't be House leadership. The buck stops with her. Code of conduct and ethics are so important that Speaker Pelosi made it her platform: She was going to "drain the swamp."

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made some big promises when the Democrats took over Congress after the 2006 mid term elections. Among them was this whopper:
"This leadership team will create the most honest, most open, and most ethical Congress in history" - Speaker-Elect Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Press Release, November 16, 2006
What a laugh that is.

Will Nancy Pelosi’s ethics committee do anything about it? Or will they claim it’s just another taped hoax, and ignore the dangerous and volatile behavior of one of their caucus members?
Big Government.com

They -headed by Pelosi will cling to pathetic claims and ignore a breach of the House code of conduct it seems.

^The guy was out on the street on his own time...

He is a congressman from the time he is sworn in until he is replaced.
No such thing as his "own time".
Kind of like serving in the military.

They all love having 24 hour a day perks.
There are the downsides though.
Can't just grab and push anyone with a camera...

^ "You lie!"

Yes. Pelosi has real trouble with the truth.

I don't see how there could be anything more leading up to his reaction as far as this one incident is concerned. In the video you can clearly see that he is approaching them on the street, of course they were undoubtedly waiting for him. I don't see how they enticed him in any way other than acting like the media does. Even if these were two patsies out to get some dirt on him, as a political figure, he should strive to always be on his best behavior, our government doesn't need any more embarrassment.

That is the way I see it too.
In fact Congressman Etheridge apologized WITHOUT MAKING EXCUSES OR COMING UP WITH ANY EXPLANATION ABOUT HOW THE TWO YOUNG MEN ACTED INAPPROPRIATELY.
Why?
Because he has not excuse and the two who approached him on the street were well within their rights.

Lame excuses and far fetched explanations are for the partisan hacks.

Qualified apologies are not apologetic, though I think he responded too quickly.

Again: why aren't the police involved in this "assault"?

Let it go folks... Everyone is already over it, except foaming-at-the-mouth wingnuts, who are always foaming-at-the-mouth anyways.

Edited to add: If similar footage of Todd Palin assaulting a group of "students with a camcorder" over a question posed to Sarah ever emerged, certain quarters would be hailing him as a hero.

A good point. It would be a rendition of 'those-damn-kids-were-just-asking-for-it' except it would somehow become larger than life and find its way into Palin folklore as a virtue lost on all but a few Americans.
SP: Personal space means personal space up here in Alaska. And I'm not apologizing to anybody about this. That's what's wrong with America and the left-leaning radical press... they want to tell Todd about his ability to defend his personal space and all he was doing was standing up for what is right...
I think I've watched way too much televised politics.

Etheridge apologized with no silly excuses for HIM invading someone else's personal space and grabbing what looked like a young man who came no higher than his chin and who was asking to be released by respectfully calling him "sir."

The pathetic defenses of bad and inappropriate behavior continue.

Apparently, Trinity, you are so entrenched in Democrat-bashing that you were unable to actually read, process and understand my post. Please don't expect me to do it all the time, but here's a Cliff's Notes version since you didn't get it:

  • The writer doesn't defend anybody.
  • The writer implicitly asserts that pro-Palin types embrace double-standards.
  • The writer cleverly parrots Palin's style of "cute as a kitten while hopelessly fettered by naivete" interview response.
  • The writer incorporates a sub-theme indicting politics and political coverage in general.
Perhaps reading and thinking before you engage your keyboard next time would be a better approach?

The only double standard on-going in this thread is the defense of Etheridge's inappropriate behavior and the attempt to deride Sarah Palin to do it.

You are the one in need of cliff notes you fail to get that.
