Even though I am not trying to access anything that is beyond relatively popular links and nothing even remotely illegal or overtly controversial of late I am almost always getting a flagged warning of "Critical Threat" or "Serious Threat" and close up in fear.
It has happened vary rarely in the past but I have never experienced any noticeable adverse damage or actions happening. However in the past month or so more times than not I am getting this message. It is followed by a direction to download an antivirus app so I think that they are phantom threats just to spook me into downloading the app where the real threat lies.
I do not visit any porn sites now because I don't know what to trust.

First thing you need to do is insure you have a legitimate anti-virus program on your computer. You can purchase one (Norton, McAfee, etc.) or use a free one (Avira, AVG, etc.). Do not download any anti-virus program you see in those warnings or pop-ups you are getting. I use Avira myself. Some of the freebies come with additional features you don’t need such as device driver updates and system speed up programs. If asked, do not install these as they are just unneeded overhead that don’t really do much.

Next, see if you can find and install an anti-pop up extension for your browser. This will cut down on the amount of pop ups you get when you go on these sites. Google search your web browser name and stop pop ups and go through the results and see what works best.

There are only two ways a porn site can generate revenue; through Memberships and through ads. Along with any physical advertisements you see on their pages, they drive more ad revenue by popping up another site or ad when you click on links or click the play button to watch a video.

Thanks. I am a relative tech Luddite and your post is of great help in this matter as I wasn't sure what to trust and don't want to pay for anything I am unsure of including out of my pocket. I have always been suspicious of pop ups.

No prob. Just a reminder to NEVER pay for anything that “pops up”. Those programs install all kinds of stuff you definitely don’t want. You could do serious damage.

Stop using windows.

Back in the day when I watched porn on windows, my browser would get hijacked regularly. The fake FBI warnings, opening 20 new windows, numerous redirects, etc. I had gotten into the habit of restoring to a previous backup.

Once i bought my first tablet, I stopped using my pc.
