I'm curious what everyone is doing to cope during the aftermath of this week's insurrection. List tactics or go into depth; either approach is fine.

I'll start: gleefully reading r/byebyejob.

Playing online games to take my mind off of it. I usually like to watch news online, but after a bit it just disgusts me too much and I need something else to distract me for a bit >_< Although I have to say, seeing some of those "stop the steal" people getting arrested or getting maced in the face makes me smile. Is that bad?

Mob Unleashed by Trump Kills Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick

The United States Capitol Police announced that officer Brian Sicknick, who was hospitalized after Trump’s mob attacked him, died of his injuries Thursday evening. The 42-year-old had been on life support. He was one of 50 police officers reportedly injured by marauders on Wednesday. Police arrested just 26 people on Capitol Hill during the insurrection.

On Thursday, Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund said he would quit, effective January 16. Also on Thursday, congressional leaders ousted the sergeants-at-arms of both the House and Senate.

"Coping with" makes it sound like you've been emotionally troubled by some hooligans momentarily inconveniencing the ruling class. :joy:

Just be sure to remain this emotionally untroubled when those same hooligans are inconvenienced by law enforcement.

I'm fine, Joe Biden will be sworn in soon, and the new Justice Department will have the FBI up the asses of these terrorists. Let's get much needed aid to families and local governments/businesses and let's kick Covid's ass so America can be back on track by this fall.

In my opinion, in troubled times, it is best to face it and deal with it, rather than hide your head in the sand. I am fortunate to have progressive thinking family members, including my beloved mother, and young niece, and nephew, and several friends, that I can talk about real life issues, and politics with.

But, frankly speaking, the main way that I am coping and staying sane, is by keeping tuned in to, and contributing to, the Politics Forum, right here at LPSG!

Also, a few glasses of Merlot in the evenings, helps... :emoji_wine_glass:

Certain people are determined to have another insurrection, as follows:

Pro-Trump extremists plan violence off Facebook, Twitter after ban

Expelled from mainstream social media, the supporters of President Donald Trump, QAnon conspiracy theorists, white supremacists and armed agitators behind the deadly Capitol siege have burrowed into the darker reaches of the internet, where they are hatching plans to converge on state capitals and Washington, D.C., this weekend and Inauguration Day in smaller online forums and on encrypted messaging apps.

“Many of Us will return on January 19, 2021, carrying Our weapons, in support of Our nation's resolve, to which [sic] the world will never forget!!!" one QAnon supporter wrote on Parler, a right-leaning social media platform that was taken offline Monday when Amazon stopped hosting it. "We will come in numbers that no standing army or police agency can match.”

I hope they abandon their plans to disrupt Biden's inauguration or do other mischief and mayhem.

No offense meant, @dreamer20, but this info really belongs in the "Insurrection At The Capitol" thread, where it would get much wider readership.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the OP's intention for this thread is sharing our own personal ways of coping with the threat and violence of the Jan. 6th coup d'etat attempt, not about potential, future plans for right-wing attacks.

The OP is coping by reading articles about the incident and its aftermath - that he posted in a link. I also have listed events from that fateful day. I have yet to cope with them and fear what may soon come to pass.

Ya know what?... I had totally skipped over the link that he posted: "I'll start: gleefully reading r/byebyejob."

Oopsy!

There should be an exemption in the right to bear arms in DC.

That would be a good start if enforced.

The first and second amendments need to be brought in line with the realities of the 21st century.

The founding fathers had no idea that people would be able to spread flat out lies and videos of their daughters being gang raped & broadcasted to the amusement of millions of inbred fuck wits using the "dark web", under the first amendment protection; nor trigger happy assholes bringing semi-automatic weapons into the hallowed halls of democracy under the auspice of the second.

The bill of rights should not be used by one group to take away the rights of life for others.

The second amendment should have been overhauled starting with the birth of the National Guard. Militias are now another palatable name for domestic terrorism in the US.

Speaking of coping with the Insurrection: it's not over. I have concerns about Inauguration Day. Trump isn't skipping it and getting out of town just because he's butthurt. He doesn't want to be there when his supporters riot.

With the Mall closed, barricades all over town and 15,000 troops guarding the capital and the Capitol I hope law enforcement doesn't ignore that an attack can come from the sky.

After the 1993 bombing of the WTC security in and around the twin towers was beefed up dramatically. No one thought of looking to the sky for the next threat. They were still fighting the last war. I hope law enforcement doesn't suffer the same lack of imagination they did on 9/11 or last week on 1/6.

If those nutcases were crazy enough to storm the Capitol some are crazy enough to fly an airplane into the Inauguration. They could also use drones to disrupt it or deliver tear gas, explosives or worse. How many of the fuckers are out on bail? How many others have yet to crawl out of the woodwork?

Same caution applies for law enforcement in all 50 state capitals and at courthouses in cities and towns across the country. Keep an eye on the sky as well as the ground.

My second concern is national guard troops. US military is 80% Republican. It'd take just one of the 15K troops to point a rifle at the inauguration and start shooting. I hope they keep the bulletproof glass up in front the dais.

What is it with the military that it attracts and/or creates such nutcases? Deceased Q-Anon shitwit Ashli Babbitt was and many other 1/6 seditionists are ex military including Jake Angeli. Tim McVeigh who blew up the Federal Building in Oklahoma City was ex military. So was his accomplice Terry Nichols. The militia movement all across the US is a breeding ground for these assholes.

Nothing will give Trump more satisfaction than to see demonstrations and riots all over the country as he flies away on Air Force One watching it unfold on Fox News... or at Mar-a-Lago if he leaves DC early as reports suggest.

Does anyone doubt that if a Congress held hostage at gunpoint by Trump's treasonous seditionists on 1/6 had changed the outcome of the election that Trump would have refused a second term? It's what he wanted all along.

It was an attempted coup as were the 64 lawsuits he filed across the US to change the outcome of the vote.

Lock. Him. Up.
