I'm surprised with the nature of this website and the amount of bouncing around porno sites many do here, that the topic wouldn't be more prominent as it seems to mainly focus on the downloading of copyrighted "porn" -

This stuff is about as terrifying as it is interesting and I think anybody with an internet account owes it to themselves to read up on it. The ability to download a torrent is now a standard feature in some browsers, and all it takes is a couple clicks on the wrong link by anyone using your account to get you targeted by these thugs. They don't seem to have any interest in proving that the person who owns the account actually did the downloading or that the file is in their possession, or that they even completed a download of it. From what I can tell, it looks like if you even accidentally clicked on one, then cancelled, it would still throw your IP address into their list, activate the tracking, and give them an opportunity to force your ISP into giving them your name for extortion purposes.

It's amazing that in this high tech digital age, they could create a law with this large of a hole in it allowing these sleazebags to do this to people, or that any judge or court couldn't figure out what they were doing, or (as I did) read about their history and what they had used the names for in previous cases, but apparently, it's still happening to thousands of people and none of them are talking about it out of fear of exposure for something they possibly didn't do, and which no one can possibly prove.

I hope they not only stop them from ever doing it again, but sue them for as much of the money those sad fools have already given them. That figure is supposed to be in the millions and one of the top dogs almost sounded as if he were laughing about it in one of the articles.

How To Handle A Copyright Infringement Notice

There are a ton of others if you just Google "copyright trolls". Some of it seems to be from actual law firms specializing in this new practice, so I'm not sure if they would want to scare people into becoming clients, but I'd like to believe they're on the level and are just trying to help and educate.

This arrangement and the way they've found to abuse those new laws is so ridiculous that it can only be a matter of time before all the courts have caught onto it and stop allowing it, but at this point in time, it doesn't seem to have happened ... so watch the fuck out!

note- This post was not meant to condone piracy. What these people are doing seems to have little to do with preventing it, and little to do with the original intention of the new laws or how they are typically used by the music/movie industries, etc. Their motive is simply about using the "embarrassing nature" of their own product to scare random people into handing them large amounts of money "under the table".
