I fixed the thread title for you. I enjoyed that sketch as much as I did the Colonel Angus sketch from the season before.

Big Ben IV made me look at that thread.

Darn him.

My housemates must think I'm daft, up here in a quiet room, giggling my fool head off.

Eh, people say that about SNL, but I disagree. Older episodes had their share of dud sketches also, but these tend to be edited out when the episode is repackaged for syndication -- sometimes entire episodes from the early days of SNL are omitted from the syndication package because the whole episode was a dud. The episodes starring Louise Lasser, Milton Berle, and Charlene Tilton, for example, are hardly ever shown today. When was the last time you saw one of the Land of Gorch sketches in reruns?

The latest SNL episodes also have their dud sketches (how many more 'Carol' sketches will we be forced to endure?), but have a fair share of gems as well. If you weren't watching, you missed:
  • the outrageous and tasteless Girls Gone Wild: Katrina!
  • The Werewolf, who undergoes a really-quite-mundane transformation
  • a drunken Harriet Miers admits she wasn't qualified, but neither is anyone else in that administration!
  • Refurbishments, the home improvement show that teaches you how to put the caulk in the crack.
  • The Englehart Five is a singing quartet with a dark secret.
  • Fairmont Suites Inn -- where Peter Saarsgard can't find the remote.
  • Steve Martin tries Viagra for the first time just before his monologue.
  • Wheel Of Fortune, featuring contestants who really don't get the game.
  • Journey To The Disney Vault reveals some uncomfortable truths.
  • Laser Cats!
  • The Socially Awkward Officemates, who propose a menage-a-trois while drunk.
  • President Gore's State of the Union Address from a utopian parallel universe.
  • The last Falconer of the season, where the entire cast gets a chance to play the title role.
Not everyone will agree that all of these sketches were funny, of course. But I believe the show's picked up again since the late 90's, and hate to see it maligned unfairly.
