My state is LARPing The Black Plague. But dear old DeSantis won't do shit. Cuz he's Trumpty's assboy.

Even Demings ain't doing shit. Cuz, of course, nobody wants to nut up, they just want us to shut up and keep the economy chugging until we all die.

If our medical system is overwhelmed, if food and supply chain is breaking down with 5% community spread what's gonna be like at 30% community spread?

But...but...but...Trump’s re-election!! Is there anything more important to humanity?

Ugh. Seeing as the Evangelicals claim god sent him, perhaps he can be returned COD—defective product: unwanted.

It's very depressing...I know. Governor Smurf I would expect not to do a damn thing since he's taking his marching orders from Pence to claim the rising numbers are due to more testing; not the re-openings and won't shut down things again even if the bodies are piling up in the streets like cordwood. But, yeah, Demings has been a major disappointment, especially when he was one of the few local leaders who seemed to be taking it seriously at first. I stopped supporting him years ago when he decided to run for every office but dogcatcher so he could double, triple and quadruple dip with the taxpayers' money. With all his talk about making masks mandatory, he won't really do it and if he does, businesses better start hiring armed security because the amateur constitutional scholars will start throwing their violent tantrums at the employees.

I've been reading a lot of articles that people are no longer caring due to "Covid-fatigue" and I'll really think it's the case. Less than half the people I encounter are still bothering with masks, almost everyone is standing close to each other and there just seems to be either a throw-up the hands acceptance of this or they think it's over with and everything is like before. The lack of response from leadership has a lot to do with it too and I think people have received so many mixed messages, they've given up.

The ship is still chugging along straight into the field of ice, but no one is at the helm.

Fatigue? America is a nation of infantile minds. Stands to reason that we elected a toddler as president. Fatigue says the masses. Some of y'all been holding on to the Confederate Flag for a 150 years, wearing a fucking mask for 6 months is too much?

This is why we don't have nice things. It's a pandemic, not a TikTok challenge! This shit is here to stay!

When did society collectively decide to let the idiots have a say?

Remember when a person was just wrong? Not an alternate fact or theory? We need that back. Tell them thanks for playing. We know they did their best. Send them home with a years supply of Rice-a-roni. Move on to the people who actually know shit.

Fauci calling people dumbasses might get me through the rest of the year.

"One of the problems we face in the United States is that unfortunately, there is a combination of an anti-science bias that people are -- for reasons that sometimes are, you know, inconceivable and not understandable -- they just don't believe in science and they don't believe authority."

Demings pulled the trigger on mandatory masks in all public areas. But. Always a but. No enforcement.

So, yeah. 3200 cases today, with a 15% drop in testing, and Flori-duh is staying on brand.

And Disney is reopening.

Not much point in calling something mandatory when the most you are going to do to a non-compliant person is say "Pretty please". Still won't change the percentage of those who think their comfort or non-existent freedoms are more important then killing their grandma and get ready for the uptick in news stories of employees getting assaulted and verbally abused. Thank God-that-doesn't-exist I work in other county where businesses haven't done squat since day one. Wondering if someone not wearing a mask and coughing in your face could be terms for Stand-Your-Ground? Wishful thinking.

Guess I'll be installing that new NBC filter I bought for my 30 year old M-17 mask after all just to go shopping or to the gym as pretty soon the state will be running out of people who are negative. It's times like this I realize I really do miss the snow.

apart from being very sad,and incredulous re the entire affair,i have a feeling no matter who was your president at this time, there would likely be little difference
unless a more onto it leader locked down the country when most others did

Rising Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations underscore the long road ahead

Rising US tide worries scientists
Despite the United States tallying about 20,000 new COVID-19 cases each day, and a death toll of more than 117,000, experts are concerned that people are becoming complacent about the disease. Public-health researchers are pondering which mitigation measures, from complete lockdown to ‘business as usual’, could be put in place to protect the most vulnerable people. “It’s still not entirely clear to me whether there’s the political and social will that could sustain another round of community lockdown,” says infectious-disease researcher and physician Yonatan Grad. “So if not, what are we going to do?”

And remember when people died from the consequences of their stupidity? They themselves died, not others?

I want that back. I want drunk drivers, people who don’t know gun safety, and non mask wearers during a pandemic to kill themselves, not others.

NCbear (who thinks that’d be both fair and appropriate)

How do you decide what protective actions to take? Around COVID or anything else?

A Columbia University professor sees how we are making decisions looks a lot like how men made decisions on sexual partners in the rise of HIV.
‘COVID-sorting’: How we decide whom to get close to and whom to avoid

On a preliminary read, I’d say I agree with his position.
Even in my own business, I’ve been making decisions about which clients may book with me. And I make assumptions about how they are careful and making good decisions.
I have an understanding of how epidemics move through populations.
I understand at a shallow level how RNA and viruses implant and replicate.
I do, however, have access to some peer reviewed information.

Watching people who are ignoring safety directives from our health department (and I work in two separate counties, two different requirements. I just go by the more strenuous one all the time), I see a lot of contagion risk.
I have written a few times on here “be a good human,” which sort of is where I come from in my day to day life. (interestingly, people have taken it personally here).
From my perspective, wearing a mask is the bare minimum right now.

So, get a fun cloth mask, wear it outside of your house or car (unless you are a ride share driver), and tip your delivery people VERY well.

Maybe the antibodies work, but not permanently.

COVID-19 Antibodies Can Disappear After 2-3 Months, Study Shows

Note, the sample size was laughable, especially for China.
And neither B or T cells were factored in, but if 40 percent of asymptomatic people don’t “keep” antibodies and <20 percent of symptomatic patients also “lose” antibodies, viral latency will be a very big deal.

I remember telling the wife at the beginning of the week that I bet we will be to 10,000 cases by the weekend and today we hit over 9,000, so it seems like my prediction is unfortunately right in line and will likely top it by tomorrow. My area has the highest cases and seems to be poised to pass even south Florida as the new hotspot. Meanwhile Governor Smurf is hellbent on not reversing course and maybe even not delaying the next phase (which at this point with everything 100% open and "normal", we are technically already there). He continues to hide his head in the sand (or up Trump's ass) and put all the blame on increased testing or that since most of the positive cases are younger people who are less likely to get sick...who cares (aside from the fact there are still super spreaders).

About the only good (if it can be called that) thing is since we are under a mask mandate, most people are wearing them now, although there are still a few holdouts (mostly young males) and stores we've been to are not really enforcing it either. Don't even get me started on the gym, which we really might have to give up as the risk is becoming too great.

We seem to be on a suicidal path and the solution in keeping the numbers down appear to be in fudging the results and decreasing testing rather then actually following medical and scientific advice.

I’m leaning toward “get under control with occasional flare ups” along the lines of the 1917-18 pandemic IF and only IF a viable vaccine or two come into use.

I’m very curious how this will affect human interaction both on the physical level and the emotional level of seeing others as contagion.

Keep calm please) It's not so dangerous as everyone considers it. Of course, the mass media is full of fake facts about that virus and this panic is very advantageous for the higher. I recommend to all my friends just to disinfect the hands with Hand sanitizer and to wear masks and gloves. I'm sure that this virus will end soon and we'll return to a normal life.

I'll try to be calm, but it's hard to be calm as your avatar presents an image of the grim reaper. :dizzy::skull:

'Never seen anything like it': Experts upset at US buying large quantity of coronavirus drug
European health experts criticise the United States for buying up almost all of the world's supply of coronavirus drug remdesivir that will be produced from July through till September, warning that type of behaviour sets a dangerous precedent.

Ohid Yaqub, a senior lecturer at the University of Sussex in the UK called the news of the US buyout "disappointing".

"It so clearly signals an unwillingness to cooperate with other countries and the chilling effect this has on international agreements about intellectual property rights," Dr Yaqub said in a statement.
