I don't see this as the time to encourage Trump to be in a diet. God knows he is already Mr. Cranky Pants now. I really do not want to see how he acts when he is going through KFC withdrawal or hurting for some Big Macs.

Lol. Personally Keen, I couldn't give a FLYING about his physical health or his diet. It's what's in the HEAD I find troubling.

A decade after the Obamacare debate, COVID-19 reveals who really cares about the sick and the elderly.

The phrase “death panels” became part of America’s political vocabulary in 2009, when Republicans were trying to stop the legislation that eventually became the Affordable Care Act.

Although the details of the argument evolved over time, the gist was always the same: “Obamacare” would ration treatments for society’s most vulnerable members, like the disabled and the elderly, because their lives wouldn’t be deemed worth the expense of saving.

The claim was so outrageous that Politifact named it the “lie of the year.”

Now another national debate is taking place. It’s about how to open up businesses in the country amid a coronavirus pandemic that has already killed more than 102,000 people, many of them elderly and unwell, and is sure to kill many more.

There are difficult trade-offs and ambiguous medical evidence to weigh. But on one side of the argument is a group of people who act as if ― and occasionally even say ― that returning to normality requires tolerating mass deaths among some of society’s most vulnerable groups.

And wouldn’t you know it? It’s the same crowd that was screaming about the specter of death panels a decade ago.

... upon closer inspection, the conservative positions then and now have a common theme. It’s about whose lives deserve the protection of government programs. And whose don’t.

When we crossed the staggering threshold of 100,000 Covid-19 deaths yesterday
Why is that staggering? Heres a page with US death statistics.U.S. COVID-19 average deaths by day | Statista

It says about 8,000 people die each day in th US, on average. It says the average for flu deaths is 161 per day across 2018-2019. Deaths from Covid over a two year period arent calculated, but based on the total deaths they quote would be about the same. It has not killed more people than flu does, and isnt likely to. It is not unusual. What is unusual is the extreme measures which have been taken. Some are justified bcause it is a new disease and so we are getting a lot of the deaths all at once instead of spread over a period. But many measures have been mistakes. Very costly mistakes which have even added to the death toll, while also destroying the livelihoods of many.

Good point!

Please don't worry about Trump giving up KFC. There isn't a chance in hell that Trump is going to start eating a heart healthy diet.

Catch 22. Most of us know the plot, right? in which there is the character Milo M., (father of a later M.M?? or at least in character) who tries to use the war to profit from black market schemes. The movie and the book differ on particulars but generally he eventually gets stuck with all this surplus cotton and bargains with the Germans to unload it, in exchange for agreeing to have the squadron planes under his control bomb their OWN base.

A true future Trumpublican if ever there WAS one.

Well, recall that Trump & Co. reportedly acquired financial interests in HCQ, which, it was speculated, was why he was pushing it so hard. Even to the point of claiming he was taking it himself, not TOO coincidentally, on the very day news came out about a potential breakthrough of another drug

(as if anyone in his right mind would even BELIEVE that Chief-Bonespurs, who gets tested multiple times a day, works in sealed air filtered quarters, who almost fell out when a military brass reached to shake his hand, and who hid out in a bunker, would EVER really take a drug the might kill him. Right!).

So now it seem he's struck a deal with the fascist south of the equator to send them some 2 MILLION doses of the drug under some "agreement" to further research it. Stay tuned. Might get interesting:

Hydroxychloroquine: US sends Brazil 2 million doses of drug to treat coronavirus despite link to deaths | The Independent

MEANWHILE:

Study finds hydroxychloroquine, the drug taken by Trump to ward off COVID-19, doesn't prevent coronavirus infection

Almost 20,000 new Covid-19 cases were identified in the US on Wednesday

GOOD news:

NYC reports no new coronavirus deaths for first time since mid-March

I spend very little time in front of my devices re political conversation. Hence my visits here and political contrivance.

I spend little time searching the web for linktual backup....if Linktual is a word? If not, it should be.

In response, we are about to open up air traffic between states here in Australia...and most probably to New Zealand.

In saying this we are the closest western nation to China. We have per capita on the planet, outside of Asia the most of Chinese ancestry population, outside of China..............

And yet, the Communist party calls us racist???? They target Australia....Do we care. No...because they know they are liars.

China has 1.6 billion people. We supply much of their mineral and food needs. If they wish to threaten us.........go ahead. Your nation will be starving within 2 weeks.

Get it from somewhere else during a pandemic. We were doing well before you came along, we'll do quite well without you.

Oh, and yeah.....I don't believe for one moment anything that comes from a country which denies freedom of speech and is ruled by obscenely rich, corrupt communist party members.

Don't care what the world thinks. Viruses are natural..........lies and cover up are human made.

The WHO just recently admitted, yet again, that there is no scientific data that shows masks are beneficial. Masks are so ridiculous that the WHO can’t even lie about them. But, who cares, lets just go ahead and recommend them. Masks are joke. Don’t wear them. For your own good.

Denial is a river that runs deep with you doesn't it ?

Ok so there is no "scientific data" that would be due to the fact that to get scientific data you must conduct scientific studies

People who while wearing masks are exposed to known virus spreaders who are not wearing masks

People who while not wearing masks are exposed to known virus spreaders who are not wearing masks

Both groups when the virus spreaders are wearing masks

As a "control" both groups exposed to someone who tests negative

Setting aside the moral/ethical questions of knowingly exposing negative testing people to known spreaders of a deadly virus to provide valid data the groups must be large, 1000's of people, diverse, age, health status, different ethnic groups, living situations; IE cities, suburbs, rural areas

Considering all that is on the WHO's plate is it any real surprise that they have not had the time to conduct such an exhaustive study to get definitive data on something that is just "common sense" common for most of us that is.

If they, masks "don't do any good" then riddle me this? Why to Dr's in OR's wear masks and have for like 100 years now ?

There was a time when surgeons did not ever wear gloves, did not "scrub"
